Teague interviewing for Miami job

norwood has been great for us and his model of hiring young and upcoming has been terrific. Do we have to up his salary too?! He is an acc guy though....

I don't see Norwood leaving for Miami nor do I see Miami offering to hire him. Just don't think its a good fit for either party. I bet one of the reasons they interviewed Norwood is because they may think they can get him on the cheap. Just don't see Miami as a good situation for an AD.

The same was said about Frank Haith and Missouri. :?

UM certainly seems to be starting with a long list of candidates. We'll see what happens.
I hope he stays.

WRVA said this morning that Norwood is one of 5 finalists:

Norwood Teague, VCU AD
Sandy Barbour, California AD
Michael Kelly, ACC associate commissioner
Tony Hernandez, Wisconsin deputy and acting AD
Dan Radakovich, Georgia Tech AD

The article said that they hope to narrow the list down to three finalists this week and then make a hire.

All of the other schools have football which may be a disadvantage for Teague.

Which in turn may be an advantage for us in keeping him.

It sounds like the Georgia Tech AD might be a long shot. It's not like Norwood is completely oblivious to football. Not that either of these programs are football powerhouses like Miami, but Norwood has worked at both UNC and UVA prior to arriving at VCU.

The U has to be one of the toughest AD jobs in the country. Stiff competition from professional sports, a small but very involved fanbase with very high expectations, exorbitant travel expenses for your teams (the nearest in conference rival is over 600 miles away) and a city just made to take away the focus of your student athletes.

That said it has a lot going for it, a very well heeled program, a long history of success, a very good area to recruit athletes, membership in one of the clubbiest and richest conferences in the country(and one where Norwood has many contacts), and one of the most exciting places to live in the country, Add to that the ability to hoist the occasional round with VRam and despite its drawbacks, it has to be appealing to Norwood.

ACC gig...bigtime football...great campus...the gables and south beach...um...pretty tempting. Hope he stays...gut says he will.

...Key West a 2 hour delightful drive away, the Gulf Stream is 10 miles off shore, stone crab and lobster, mojitos and Little Havana, jerked chicken and the best people watching in the world. I can dig it, Seth
