I also spoke with one of the fastest rising prospects for 2011 in the state of North Carolina. Two guard Terry Whisnant (6'4 175) had an outstanding Carolina's Challenge and has since seen several high majors stop by to see him work out. He currently only has an offer from VCU but I expect that to change in the next six weeks. Mike Boynton watched Whisnant work out recently and the Gamecocks are currently in his top four along with Florida State, Miami and VCU.

It's nice to see that we are mentioned with a couple of ACC schools and an SEC one. However, I think we're in his top 4 just because we are his only offer. From reading that article is seems that this kid has his sights set on a High Major program and I wish him the best of luck in reaching one. If he chooses to come to VCU, I will eat my words haha

Whisnant averaged 28 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists per contest during his junior year.

Wake Forest has started to express interest in Terry since the Carolina Challenge where he averaged 13.7 points a game over 3 games against some of the best competition the State had to offer. He was also easily one of the best overall shooters in the camp. Dave Telep mused that Whisnant has made the biggest one-year jump of any camper he's seen at the Carolina Challenge, and he's seen a lot of players. Expect his stock to go up and reach the ACC level. Shaka and staff have shown they have a real gift for recruiting so I am sure we have a decent shot at Terry regardless. Sounds like a player for sure.

i believe telep also said that he was one of if not the best shooter there.

Terry Whisnant doesn’t understand why more players don’t use the glass.

“The way I look at it, if you hit it at the right spot, it’s guaranteed to go in,” he said.

The Cherryville junior doesn’t bank a huge percentage of his shots, but he takes advantage of the backboard at the right times, offering another reason why he’s the area’s best shooter.

Whisnant, the Gazette player of the year, shot 54.3 percent from the field and a stunning 50.5 percent from 3-point range, helping him lead area public schools in scoring at 27.5 points per game.

Whisnant is in no hurry. He said he might wait until after his senior season to make up his mind.

“I just want to go somewhere I’ll feel comfortable,” he said.

Touche, that is very true. I guess it's better to have a horse in the race and have a chance at winning than just not trying at all. Hopefully, like Reco, it will pay off. We definently have a better program, IMO, than both South Carolina and Miami so you never know.

i wouldnt bank on that remaining the case at least with South Carolina as Darrin Horn has lined up a great class for next season including beating us out for a few of his guys.

I like that he goes to the bank...nothing wrong with the glass. That tells me that he is "substance over style" guy. Maynor used the glass well also...and he did OK

About 15 minutes had passed in Cherryville’s open gym Friday, and Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton had seen enough.

He wanted Terry Whisnant.

Hamilton offered a scholarship on the spot, and Whisnant accepted a couple of hours later by phone.

You called it. Sounds like the kid committed without even visiting the campus.

Good luck to him!

Hamilton is a bit on the hot seat at FSU, but can't blame the guy for wanting to play in the ACC...Florida ain't half-bad either.

The landscape and climate around Tallahassee is pretty much the same as southern Georgia rather than like the rest of the Sunshine State.

I would blame being a foreigner on not realizing that, but I've been through there and should have known that.

The winters have to be pretty nice though. Not to mention the talent down there is fairly impressive.

Even though he committed elsewhere, it is nice to see Shaka be able to identify talent way before the curve. One could argue that we have that luxury because we're a mid major but no other offers says othewise. Hopefully for others the first offer will be enough to get our foot in the door and have a shot.
