The 2024-25 Season

1/29/25

At-Large Profile (Bubbly)

Record:
15-5 (D-1), 6-2
NET: 47
BT: 48
KP: 41

Just finished w/ @Loyola, St Louis twice (split), St Bonny twice (split), Fordham, @St Joes, @Rhody. 5 road/3 home. 6-2 record. Average scoring margin +10.4 (metric-friendly).

VCU, to date (record-wise), is on course (hold serve at home, split on the road/neutral) for at-large consideration - both OOC and in conference play. Metrically, the Rams are also very much in the mix (see above) six weeks out.

OOC (D-1): Home 6-0, Road/Neutral 3-3 = 9-3
A-10:
Home 3-0, Road 3-2 = 6-2
Total (D-1) To Date = 15-5

Going forward

Hold serve at home = 6-0 (Dayton, GMU, UMass, UR, LaSalle, Davidson)
Split on the road = 2-2 (@UR, @Duq, @GW, @Dayton)
Split neutral (A-10 tourney) = 1-1
Total remaining games = 9-3

Summary/Profile (if the above holds)

Final Regular Season D-1 Record = 23-7, 14-4 (likely #1-2 seed)
A-10 Tourney = 1-1 (defeat #7-8 seed, lose to #3-4 seed)
Selection Saturday night D-1 record = 24-8 (NET ~33-43, A-10 = Top 7 NET conference; NCAA 10-11 seed)

You can tell them to stay home and watch it on TV.
You can tell them that sure... but that doesn't mean they'll listen.

Also.... what normal person is going to tell their family / friends not to come to games.... unless they are someone who can't handle the pressure that may come with performing in front people they know.

Most Athletes love having their family in attendance, and for some people its re-assuring because they know there are at least some fans who are in the stands supporting you no matter what.

Based in Buckwheat's observations..it sounds like they pulled similar stuff in chicago.

Players give their relatives tickets to the expensive seats in tbe lower section..if I'm Phil(which I'm not)..I would tell them to buy their own tickets rather having getting a ear full from the coaching about my family not being able to keep it together...if opposing fans are giving crap..call Security and let them handle it..that way you are not exposed to the risk of getting thrown out.

Agreed. This stretch of games since the beginning of the season was a tough one, with only one game (Fordham) that I thought was kind of a gimme. Hopefully the team takes them seriously, but in the next five games I'm really only concerned about the away games against Dayton and MAYBE George Washington. BUT, we can't see another night like last night. Between just an off shooting night and some really bad decisions by the players and the coaching staff, we set ourselves up for failure in a very winnable game.
Got to play better defense especially when shots aren’t falling
Getting out rebounded and giving up 50 points in the second half is a recipe for disaster

VCU record this season:

When opponents score < 71 pts = 16-2
When opponents score > 70 pts = 0-3 (@NMex, @StBonny, @STL)

VCU record this season:

Games decided by less than 4 pts = 0-3 (@StBonny, Seton Hall, Nevada)

Well, the good news is if the A10 is rigged by Bernadette, as many love to joke about, then the VCU Rams should be getting a good whistle for the rest of the regular season. It would seem the league's only chance at two bids is us running the table (maybe we could afford one more road loss to UD) and then losing in the A10 tourney.

Haven't we seen that movie before?

Uh, whoa.

I’ve personally seen some pretty questionable games this year. You really have to wonder how many games they are not catching. I avoid betting on low majors for this very reason. It’s not necessarily congruent, but I just think it is a bad idea to bet on teams that draw 250 in attendance.

Unless you're the one fixing the match.
