The 2025 Offseason Thread

Can the team have practices with coaches now? If not, why not?
The staff was able to conduct a handful of initial workouts with those players who are staying (and some who were contemplating their decisions), but the semester is coming to an end. There will be no more official activity until the beginning of June, when the full team will return to campus.

We sleep in May.

Not sure where to put this, but it might make it slightly easier to schedule a P4 OOC game or two

I think most are looking to schedule P4 programs rather than last 4 in teams. Several are scheduling multiple intra-P4/5/6- conference games during their OOC. I see it more at the P6 starting to really circle their wagons. It could make every other D1 basketball conference in America that is not a P6 conference a one bid league.
I think there were only 4 other conferences below the P6 that even got an at-large bid.

But last summer and fall there was talk by Odom and the media about getting UVa back on board for a home and home series. I also remember Odom and Rhoades talking about various discussions with P6 teams that sound positive at the beginning only for us to be shut out at the end.

Nice of Rhoades not honor the home & home series after knowing how he was shut out here. What a Blockhead.

There were only 4 total at large bids outside of the P5, three from the mountain west, and then St. Mary's.

Can't they still do "individual" workouts until June?

2 days in a row working on a block sized building and a late 1800s house down there near the BDC, I have chatted with over a dozen VCU students letting them know about the ton of talent soon to be on campus, to take advantage of going to hoops games and all sports at VCU, what a therapeutic and constructive getaway it can be. I have told most about each incoming MBB student athlete. I guess it's easy to get the point across when you're sporting a gold vcu gameday shirt, which I always am when working.
Also Kat and I both chatted with two Mama J's peeps in passing today down by their joint, thanked them for helping seal the deal on what very well might be one of the most talented rosters in VCU history, said they really have to get down to some games, we're gonna make some NOISE his year.

Um, excuse me? How is this allowed?

My mentor B. McGlade told me that it's illegal to do a single, solitary proactive thing, at any point, despite a dozen-year-long downwards trend, to improve league scheduling.

I'm outraged!

and she is paid nearly 1 million a year

ADs and Presidents are to blame for keeping her so long - last 6 years or so no progress anywhere IMHO in A-10 - something has to change and it starts with leadership

Maybe a bit early to be arriving and not just visiting, but it does look like arrival. Bri arrived early.

I remember that Coach Martelli mentioned that he is kind of a Richmond kid because he has family in Chesterfield.
Looks like a few overseas players' seasons are ending, wonder who's apt to come back and serve up a his first plate of you can't get past me whooparse at the BDC?

Yep. His grandparents live down here (I didn’t hear Chesterfield, but in the area regardless) and his mother graduated high school in Varina. He has deep local ties, despite not living here himself. He apparently spent summers and holidays here. Because of that, he might have finished up at UConn and just come on down.
