The 2025 Offseason Thread

Two years of failure. Imagine having the audacity to ask your AD to pay VCU half a million bucks because you are scared to go back to the school that gave you the opportunity to make 3+million per year. That AD is paying out some serious cash for a program that is a money drain.
I am pretty sure the AD knew that was a possibility when they signed Mike. Most likely Mike told him he didnt want to go back. Mike or anyone else they would have had to pay. It’s Penn State all they care about is that football squad.

Now will Mike get canned if he cannot get it together soon, who knows. They are getting that Big Ten media money. They are good. His buyout started at 15 million and supposedly drops by 3 million per year. So if you are a betting person anytime after next year might be good.

Also, Mike got 15 million guaranteed at signing He started with 3.4 million and it increases each year. Mike’s good and I’d bet he has not issue asking for that 500k.

Penn State Nittany Lions

Grade: D

In their second season under Mike Rhoades, the Nittany Lions were 12-2 in their first 14 games, which included a 2-1 tally in Big Ten play with wins over Purdue and Northwestern. They were led by Ace Baldwin Jr. (14.0 PPG, 7.1 APG, 2.4 SPG), who won his second consecutive Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award. But the rest of their season was a freefall as they went 4-13 over their last 17 games and failed to even qualify for the conference tournament.
D seems pretty generous considering they missed the conference tournament. What a loser.

Look at the positive side. Look at the money Mike Rhoades saved those 10 PSU fans in tickets/travel expenses by not making the BIG Tournament.
I don't think too many of them would have gone anyhow. Hard to get excited when you know your team will be bounced in the first game.

Lost the locker room, as he does every other year, then whined to the media about not qualifying for the tournament.

“My guys just want to play!” Mike, do you mean the same ones that clearly don’t like playing together as a team for you?

Loser is putting it nicely.

How did Ace win defensive POY on such a horrible team? LOL. What stats would they look at? Steals? Defensive rebounds? What else?

VCU went to the Final Four 14 years ago. I'm getting old... That's nearly as long as I've been on VRN. This forum is a relic of an Internet that doesn't exist anymore and was way better than the one we have now.
Way way better.

Doug Gottlieb, being Doug Gottlieb, wants the NCAA to allow UW-Green Bay to compete in the TBT. You know, a college team, against a bunch of overseas pros and college alumni.

Because losing to a D2 team he described as "Nobody U" in a regular season game wasn't embarrassing enough.

How is it that the TBT is even entertaining this idea, does it not violate their own guidelines?
