The 2025 Offseason Thread

We all know how this goes. Heck, most of the freshmen were Utah State recruits. It is a bummer and I guess we can hold out hope when it comes to the players but we are now in for a bumpy ride.
I believe we will have a rough two years, but as long as we beat Richmond twice next year, I can live.

Facts I guess the silver lining is we knew we were losing 5 players (seniors) even if Odom stayed lol I think Luke and Brandon go with Odom, would love to keep both (LONG shot), but hopelessly optimistic we can keep Brandon and maybe swing Silas to recommit. IMO everyone else is expendable, so just looking forward to hopefully the Pitino announcement so we can get into the portal madness early

Let’s be honest, most of us were excited by Silas potential and I feel that a lot of people were just like warm on Tillery (I might be the first person to mention his name sine RO departed) but there is a long history of kids that didn’t show up after a coaching change that didn’t pan out where they landed. Jordan Murphy and Kenny Williams had success but Eblen, Mack, Batts, Kiir, etc are just some of the players we did just fine with out. Step one, name a coach, step two a. Let that coach get players that fit their style. Step two b. Include players and or staff that mesh and can blend in VCU tradition

I'm not convinced Theus stays at VCU. I don't think it is a given. He needs experience at the highest level he can get in order to position himself for a head coaching gig. I would not be surprised to see him go to UVA with Odom. Between Aldrich and Theus, Odom would have a strong handle on the Commonwealth of Virgina recruiting scene.

I would love for him to go the Rhoades route and become the head coach of a lower D1 team, to position himself for the next time there's an opening for a VCU head coach.

Darius may stay because it would be wise for the next coach to keep him on staff. That said, the absolute best thing for Darius' career would be to leave and let his first head coaching job be at a lower level school. Wade went to Chattanooga, Mike to Rice, Odom to UMBC, etc.

If he stays, the next obvious step for him would be something like associate head coach, and whoever eventually ends up as VCU's head coach may have someone they bring with them for that position.

Yeah I am not ready to speculate on any personnel until a head coach is named. I am not convinced RO is going to have anyone from his previous staff at UVA. Theus most likely does need to go somewhere else but I am not sure of the where right now either. I do think the picture starts to come into focus over the next 72 hours

The thing that I think is interesting is the Matt Henry situation. Matt has been with Coach Odom for 7 years. He's moved with Coach Odom from UMBC to Utah State and then to VCU. Seems strange that he isn't making the move with Odom to UVA. That tells me something else is happening in the background regarding Matt Henry's next chapter in coaching.

He may be hunting around for a D1 job. Same with Theus. With Theus, and probably Henry too depending upon their relationship, I would think Ed McLaughlin would be a fantastic resource to help him find one.
