The Best of the Rest

Not a Mason fan. Was a VCU fan during Grant's tenure -- had followed his career since early in his time at Florida and always knew he was going to be a great one. Sad, but not really surprising to see how many on this board have chosen to trash him considering so many of the guys you cheer for were either brought here or convinced to stay here by AG.

Anyhow, nowadays I'm busy following my guy on the Alabama boards and don't come around here except when I feel like stirring stuff up, which is why I went for the Mason angle. I know it drives the passionate VCU fans (and a few ODU fans who lurk here) crazy -- you guys all think VCU basketball is so high and mighty, you can't stand the thought that another program in the CAA has a higher national profile. Sorry ... but it's like taking candy from a baby :D

Oh, and by the way, before you go ripping the accomplishments of a program that played in the Final Four as recently as 2006, remember two things: it took the arrival and development of the greatest player in VCU history for your squad to win ONE NCAA tournament game. None of the guys on your current roster have accomplished anything without riding around on Maynor's coattails. Again, sorry but the truth hurts.

Hey you really do not know VCU basketball. Maynor wasnt our greatest player. One of the best but not the greatest. Weve had several. And yes, we've won NCAA games before and will again. Oh and by the way as to your fair weather team Bama. They really seem to like what VCU has to offer as AG is the second guy who coached at VCU who has led your team.

I like AG as well but putting our program down is ridiculous. Finally, if you must disparage us at least get your facts straight.

Yeah, AG is a saint. What about the repeated phone calls and text messages that he sent to Larry trying to convince him to come to Alabama with him?

The same could be said about certain coaches. Sorry, but the truth hurts.

So basically what you're saying is that you're admitting your entire post was BS and that you're just trying to stir the pot. Gotcha.

We won 4 NCAA tournament games before Duke. You can neither refute anything I said or prove anything that you've said. No one's arguing that VCU has a larger national profile than Mason. We're arguing that Mason has a bigger profile compared to anyone in the conference due to the Final Four and how disappointing their performances have been in light of that. Of course you weren't really legitimately arguing anyway. You have to have a point for that.

At least your honest enough to admit you're just a troll trying to stir the pot. I admire the honesty. Most people who are trying to get people riled up would never be so honest.

Not only that, to add on to another point, ODU's best basketball is ahead of them. This years team, which will return 7 of the top 8 scorers, should be destined for great things. We'll get a feel early on for how good they can be with the Paradise Jam and a home game against Georgetown.

Some preseason media types have picked us to be top 25 all the way as high as 14th. Obviously ODU fans are skeptical of that, myself included, because replacing Gerald Lee will be no easy task. With that said though, ODU should be in the NCAA tourney next year as well.

But to go back to your point about GMU, how can you not say they have been a disappointment since making the Final 4? Since Thomas and Campbell have left, GMU has done NOTHING. Absolutely freaking zero. They've had highly rated recruits come in and just completely disappear.

Birdsong? Moldevaneau? Tate? Foster? I could keep going on. Pearson and Cornelius have been decent, Morrison is a good player but a headcase and no one else on GMU would crack the starting lineups for ODU or VCU. They have completely and totally squandered all the press, hype, media attention etc. that they have received since the Final 4. ODU and VCU are both much more recent in the minds of young players because of their success in the NCAA tourney and because VCU is sending players to the NBA.

You can spin it any way you want but like someone already said, GMU should be lightyears ahead of ODU and VCU right now in recruiting because of that Final 4 and not only are they not ahead of us, they are actually behind us.

Oh, and by the way, Anthony Grant hasn't even had a winning season as a head coach without riding around on Maynor's coattails. Again, sorry but the truth hurts.

P.S. I've been a Ram fan since the 70s. My favorite play of all time was Maynor waving for Grant to sit down on our last offensive play in the Duke game.

I too have been a fan since the 70's however, I have many favorite plays most are from the later 70's and early 80's. I really liked the Ro Lamb buzzer beater.

Paging AG Fan

You rang???

Really, there shouldn't be any need to defend AG's coaching ability to fans of VCU basketball -- he did, after all, deliver your first NCAA victory since 1985. That's kind of a long time, you know.

As for riding around on Maynor's coattails, if you don't think AG had a lot to do with Maynor's development from a kid with a messed-up jumper to a first-round NBA draft pick, you're all delusional. Ask Eric sometime and he'll tell you exactly how much AG helped him.

And while it may be fun for some of the more petty, insecure members of this board to root for Anthony to fail in spectacular fashion at Alabama -- some sort of karmic payback for leaving VCU, I guess  -- I wouldn't hold my breath. He inherited a roster ill-prepared for his style of play at Alabama; once he gets a couple recruiting classes full of his guys in there, the Tide will be rolling into the NCAA on an annual basis ... and VCU will still be in the CAA

The truth hurts. Now take the bullsh!t back to Alabama and come back when poor Anthony doesn't have an "ill-prepared roster." Perhaps he could call Jeff Capel and have him prepare one for him. What a f#cking joke.

Hey, VRam, how old are you? You mentioned being a VCU fan back in the 70s and you seem like a very, angry bitter senior citizen ... of course, no shortage of them in Fla.

Maybe you should get out and enjoy the sun a little bit -- might improve your mood. I hear shuffleboard is a popular activity among the senior set. Leave the basketball talk to people who know something about the sport.

who cares about anthony grant. i'm not even sure why anyone's talking about him. he was great while he was here, but now he's gone. i personally wouldn't bash the guy, but i'm not gonna root for him either.

btw ag_fan, just out of curiosity, what college did you go to?

I'm the happiest guy on earth and I'm probably younger than you. I just like to pull the chains of nitwit a-holes. I particularly like to throw the nitwit's own dopey phrases back at them. When Grant wins anything without Maynor, come talk sh!t.

Folks, let's just wait until the H&H series with Alabama to see who is best. By then AG will have his recruits & so will Shaka.
