Previous conference POY's wearing black 'n' gold are Calvin Duncan, Bernard Hopkins, Dom Jones, Eric Maynor, Bones Hyland and Ace Baldwin .... Hopkins might be least known, but the burly powerhouse averaged 23 points and 14 boards as a senior in '96, winning CAA tournament MVP as well as CAA POY. Hop had 950 points and 587 boards in just two Rams' seasons.

It's pretty wild that VCU has been a member of a conference since 1979, yet only seven players have ever won the player of the year award. Of course, as I said elsewhere, three of those have happened in the last 5 years, which is an amazing achievement.
