Just wondering about any opinions on who we should pursue to replace Sanders down the road with the possibility of him leaving next year....and we need to think about the big "P" going after next season...I know it is late but with one scholarship left should we try to get another big man to groom him so that it would be a seemles transition....any thoughts? :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Not sure about any 5's out there right now who could be groomed to take over for larry. the talk the other day about ovie soko is still intriguing as he could definitely be groomed into being a big time 4 man.

for next year if we could get Damontre Harris or Hippolyte Tsafack to commit to coming if this staff wants them because scout had them linked to us with at least some interest then the transition wouldnt be as drastic. Another recruit for next year that was talked about as being a post option was derrick williams of NJ.

Maybe others have more inside info on who we plan on pursuing and a more expanded list on who we should.

The transition from a cheer of "La-ree-San-ders-clap clap clap" to "Hi-poly-te-Tsa-fack-clap-confusion-clap-confusion..." would however be huge - hope his name is pronounced more easily than it is spelled...

What's insane about replacing these players we'll be losing this year and next...is that we are losing NBA talent. When was the last time we had to replace an NBA PG and an NBA big in consecutive seasons??? That's darn tough for any school who doesn't have their choice of blue chippers.

I think we would've been in a much better spot had we been able to secure a solid big this season, get him some reps and have him ready next year.

let's not write larry's ticket the nba just yet. i know there is a strong possibility but it is not a given. we know full well maynor could have tried to make the jump the last 2 years and didnt so maybe larry will stay as well.

In 1974, VCU's Jesse Dark and Bernard Harris both went in the NBA draft. Dark, a two guard, was the 32nd player taken overall, in the second round by the Knicks. Harris, a 6-10 post player, was the 63rd overall selection, in the fourth round, by Buffalo.

In consecutive years, guard Gerald Henderson (64th overall by San Antonio) was plucked in '78, then center Ren Watson (by Golden State) in '79.

Guard Ed Sherod and post player Greg McCray were picked in same year, '81.

In '85, two guards (Duncan and Lamb) plus center Schlegel were picked by NBA teams.

As you can see, VCU hoops weren't born yesterday, although it may seem like that to some.

As for a future biggun', how about 6-11 Matt Gorski, Class of '11 at Cosby High. Rivals lists VCU in a group that includes VPI, U.Va., JMU, Pittsburgh and G-Town vying for Gorski's services.

As a sophomore, Gorski showed dramatic improvement (almost like Sanders in his second year at VCU) as Cosby's starting low post. Gorski has a 6-7 brother who is a rising freshman (and likely varsity starter) at Cosby.

preach the word brother

Jesus Christ. He's 6'11 and in the 10th grade! I'll take my chances on him. Let's just hope he's not another Constatine Pepeliv. Surely you guys have not forgotten the 7' Russian that came to VCU with much hype but rarely played.

Gorski is going to be a big time fight from all the high majors so really the only way to get him is 1. if he wants to stay close to home 2. shaka gets him early as in works him this summer to commit as a junior.

Time for AtomicFly to put some work in lol

Hah, it'll be really tough....trust me

Don't have your hopes up.

I'd say maybe a 7%-10% chance.

Apparently his little brother is way more fluid than he is....just what i've heard.....but you can't teach 6'11/7 foot

Shaka said he was going after the local talent. He called them out in his first press conference. Let's see how good he and his staff are at this recruiting game. I don't follow local basketball that closely but it seems like the talent coming up in Richmond is significant compared to the past few years.

So you getter the bigger stiffer one in Matt to lock in the smaller more fluid one in Nick. lol. From everything i have read on the older one it is not as if he is like a George Muresan type stiff maybe just not as athletic as his brother. must be the advanced age and 4 extra inches. Besides if Nick is 6 7 going into 9th he will undoubtedly grow some more and probably be at least 6 10 himself. What is in their water. ;)
