The Official Beat the Dayton Fayers in the Stu Thread

TV Teddy actually isn’t that bad. He has a flair for the dramatic after blowing the whistle, but calls a decent game overall.

Jamie Luckie is an absolutely terrible official. He can’t even get up and down the court anymore. Dude needs to hang it up already.
I would say he has a flair for calling attention to himself. The whole turning your back to players who question your call is not only disrespectful but full of attention seeking.

Also, not that I'm complaining, but when Shulga got fouled on that game ending rebound there was still time left on the clock and he should've been shooting free throws with anywhere from .4 to .8 left on the clock. But it appears that TV Ted decided on his own to declare the game over. Maybe he had a date he didn't want to be late for?

You really don’t get it. Your rant on statistics are facts. The point you just don’t understand is that you are negatively passing judgement on him, without knowing why he is not performing well…especially considering you know nothing about what was going on at Louisville. I wish he was averaging 20 and 10, but that’s up to him and the coaches to figure out. Our job is to support the team anyway we can, and you continue to fail miserably.
Let's be real, that is a sports forum and these are sports fans. Do you really expect fans to resort to psychoanalyzing players when they aren't performing up to their expectations? Is it realistic to see a player performing horribly on the court and expect fans to still be "supportive?"

I think you need to compartmentalize being a fan from being a human. Yeah, if a classmate was failing in their studies you may have empathy for what may be going on in their personal life. Rightly or wrongly, expecting that to be the default position in sports is just not realistic. Especially now that we have of sample size of almost three years.

You certainly have every right to your opinion, but for me, being a fan is not a valid excuse for not showing compassion for another human being. Way too much of that in this world already.

So...where is the compassion for the UR and Dayton players? I imagine they felt bad after those tough losses. Maybe instead of us celebrating our victory we should've been supportive of the UR and Dayton players and consoled them. Perhaps we should've been in this forum expressing our sympathy towards them. Perhaps instead of hundreds of posts about the wins we should've been reading hundreds of posts expressing compassion towards the UR and Dayton players and being supportive of them. They're human beings too, right?

Come on now.

I will respectfully decline going down the rabbit hole with you. Our conversation was dealing with a specific VCU player, not sports in general. I don’t give a rats butt about how other teams handle losing to VCU…I do care about our players.

It's a cheap shot, and whether you like the kid or not, he's playing college ball, and not the NBA. There are ways to criticize a player without it being personal or classless. That comment fell into the both of those categories of course that's just my opinion, your mileage my vary. I've seen much worse, but I think you keep those type of comments to yourself and not displayed out in public.

Where's the compassion for other human beings? Oh, we should only have compassion for VCU human beings? Got it!

It's not a comment I would've made but I didn't see it as being that egregious. Like you said, I've seen much worse. Probably much worse in this forum. Also, the gap between student athletes and pro athletes is becoming very narrow. If you want to get paid like a pro, expect more pro-like reactions to your play.

I'm sure the 16 year old pros playing in Europe get crap thrown at them the same as the 30 year old pros.

Rabbit hole. I didn’t say I had no compassion for other human beings. I said I didn’t care about consoling fans who lost to VCU. I have compassion for people, including people like you who just refuse to understand/accept a simple point without turning into a full blown sermon ( no offense intended Pav).

Yeah it was down the list of egregiousness, more just hard sarcasm. I laughed a bit, but did feel kinda bad about it.

And spot on about the gap. If you're gonna take money, expect to get criticized. One more reason I don't like the NIL.

I'm sorry if you consider it a rabbit hole trying to justify no disconnection between how we act as a sports fan and how we treat "other human beings" in our everyday life. The rabbit hole is usually a convenient out when your comment makes little sense.

Yeah, I think college sports fans are going to have to make the mental adjustment and we probably aren't there yet. With these NILs, if you're comfortable with people throwing shade at Kevin Durant for whatever reason, is it really any different doing the same to college athletes who are getting paid? Gotta take the bad with the good.

GuardtheArc allows for us to lose at Dayton and lose in the A10 final and be safely in the NCAA Tournament by virtue of 24 wins. I do not think that takes off the bubble but rather only finally puts us on the bubble. If we have 24 wins and neither Dayton nor us win the A10 Tournament, out outlook is bleak imo.
If the bubble is strong, yes. I think we'll have a resume that is competitive though and if other bubble teams are not so great, we still have a chance. I'm seeing a lot of bubbly teams that have pretty big flaws too. We're not alone there.

Yep, and I don't want to look at them the same way. We're seeing a lack of civility in so many places, and sports is supposed to be a fun, if too short escape from the reality of the world in my opinion.

Even at the pro level what's acceptable behavior ? personal taunts ? I've never thought so unless the guy is asking for it with behavior on the floor. Even then there's a line to be respected if even for your own personal self respect.

The internet is full of the college game highlights of fights, classless taunting, and I'm a bad *ss video clips.... and that's just womens basketball. Kelces in your face to coach Reid would have been a rare rare thing to see not too long ago, but it's becoming more common place.
