The Official Beat the Dayton Fayers in the Stu Thread

All about beating an Anthony Grant coached team in Richmond. And Capel, and Shaka, and Wade, and Rhoades, and Odom.

Also among former VCU coaches who later lost at The Stu, add Mack McCarthy to the list (while at East Carolina) ... looks like Rhoades will never come back as a visitor ... and I doubt Odom.

We have? When? We've lost two home games (11-2). One against the 19th ranked team in the country that is 22-1.
VCU shot 12/39 from 2 and 6 for 24 from 3 against the Billikens. So they lost by 9 points because they couldn't finish at the rim or hit outside shots...
you can't say that's good

If you look at the numbers we certainly have. If you go by vibes to confirm your bias then perhaps not. Look at Dayton's last 5 games. If any 1 of those would have happened to us all of the bitchywhiny people on this board would be throwing a non stop fit. The VA Tech win was better, The USF win was better, the Rhode Island win was better, the Davidson win was better.
Dayton will be our 3rd best win per the NET so just going on objective ratings (love or hate the net). I know URI and Davidson were on the road.

Can't believe I'm saying this but this is a "trap-game"
Dayton had injuries to key players, they are getting back into their comfort zone as most do in time for the VCU game

Disappointed to hear that about Odom. I was hoping he might find it in his heart to give us some scraps. Always disappointed when guys we gave a leg up don't return the favor. They all know how hard it is for us to schedule good games. They also know we sell the place out whenever we get a great opponent in the building (possibly why they don't want to play us). Still, it's always good for the state of Virginia when the best squads play each other, so hoping Odom reconsiders.

Dayton snapped a 4-game losing steak by beating St. Bonaventure last night by 2 points who is now 2-8 in A10 play. The 4 game losing streak included a road loss at a 3-7 La Salle team, a road loss at an improving St Joes team (wasn't very competitive, Joes lead by around 10 the whole half), a home loss to mediocre Rhode Island who's coach sucks and is on the chopping block, and then they were uncompetitive at SLU last Friday. Meanwhile... last night a group of students spelled out "Fire AG" with homemade t-shirts. Both the Rhode Island and St. Bonaventure home games featured fans running to the exits at the under 4 minute timeout. Dayton twitter is exploding like Feb/March 2020 for VCU fans.

I wouldn't underestimate AG and Dayton playing well on Friday night, but I have ZERO idea how anyone thinks Dayton is "getting back in their comfort zone" right now. Absolutely ZERO idea.

On that note, I’m really hoping Wade will want to continue scheduling us.

I always respected Will Wade (so what, he did NIL 3 years before the whole country did it). But his decision to IMMEDIATELY schedule us the second he got the gig at NC State took my respect of him to a whole other level. Dude is goated.
I agree. I’ve always liked Wade. I know he rubs people the wrong way and his personality is the complete opposite of mine, but he won while he was here, undefeated against ur, and hasn’t been scared to play us since he left.

I think we will play UVA over the next couple of years. At least the contractually mandated games.

Waaaaaaay back when SLU slipped by us at the Stu and Mason very clearly beat us in Fairfax....VCURN was in a daaaaark dark place

Looking ahead, we saw 6 games that were VERY winnable, and I figured
Old Me with other teams...6-0....boom, fuggetaboutit
Current Me with this team...5-1?? Yea....I can live with that. 6-0 might be askin too much
Right after Mason loss me...3-3..AT BEST....ugh, these guys!!!

And here we are....6-0 later, firmly in 3rd...1 bad Mason game away from them, 2 SLU losses from them

Dayton's last 6?? Included SLU, but not too much harder than ours...2-4.....and without looking at the Dayton boards, I'm gonna assume that the sky is, actually, falling

But, they're a cornered rat...and a cornered rat won't shrink back and accept it's fate....it's gonna charge you and get aggressive. I know this for a fact from a house I once lived at in the 1700 block of Floyd in the mid 90's....so, the Rams gotta have a solid gameplan (yellow wiffle ball bat) that can withstand the charge of the cornered rat (Dayton)....and you can't miss when it's time to strike, otherwise Dayton will hide behind your fridge and then you'll have to drag out the fridge and smack the crap out of it until it comes at you again (Execute the game plan).

Let's Go Rams!!!!
Beat those rats!!!

ps-in the 90's.....I heard there were folk in Church Hill that kept a brick on top of their toilet seats so rats couldn't get in that way. So, feel free to enjoy that image in the back of your head tonight when you lay your head down to sleep :D
Similar experience with a large rat off of Roseneath. Got out the old Louisville Slugger, left the back door open, caught him, plugged him. He looked at.me like thst is all you got B#$%$? Then at a leisurely pace went out the back door. Think I saw him the next day with his bags packed for Mexico.

I would REALLY like to at least get to that second seed, to stay away from SLU until the title game.

Hey -- maybe if we can tie SLU for regular season title, the school will buy our guys championship rings!

(insert rolled eyes here because Mason did that, and they suck)
Dayton cut down the nets one time after tying us for regular season title.

Of course I'd love the 1 seed, but that is probably unlikely. So..... VCU should be playing for the 2/3 side of the bracket. Win the games we are supposed to and beat Mason and there's a good chance we are the 2. We're probably splitting hairs over which seed is better between 2 and 3 given that the difficulty of the quarterfinal game will most likely be matchup dependent.
I think 2 seed is not only doable but may be likely for us. Mason has a pretty brutal schedule and will end up with 4 or 5 losses. (They will hold the tie breaker though) We’ll take care of business with two biggest risks being SLU and Dayton on the road. It’s anyone’s guess which is better the 2 or 3 though- there is a lot of basketball to be played and potential movement from 2-7.
