Let there be no mistake, or cause for debate, the greatest basketball player to ever represent St. Louis was from the 804 Area Code.

Moses Malone, Petersburg High Class of '74, played for the ABA Spirits of St. Louis in 1975-76, averaging 14.3 points and 14.6 rebounds ... let me repeat, 14.6 rebounds per, as a thin spindly 20-year-old.

A few of you know, but for the rest, Mighty Mo's first cousin, Morris Fultz, was a member of the VCU roster 1974 to '76, never hitting his stride.

A year older than Moses, Morris played for Petersburg's 1973 undefeated team. Urban legend will forever suggest Moses was leaning toward VCU and Coach Noe before first Lefty Driesell and then the pro ranks interfered.

Apologies to Bob Pettit, the long-ago NBA St. Louis Hawk for being edged out by Mo for St. Louis all-time No. 1 status.
