The Official Beat the Saint Louis Billikens in the Stu Thread

I noticed that he/she has been contradicting themselves for about 12,13 years. Pretty funny reading through old posts.

What a loser.
You said out your mouth "Rhoades lost the locker room in 2019" but Rhoades in 2019 had a top 25 win vs a ranked power 4 opponent...Meanwhile your guy Martelli got the locker room behind him and doesn't have a top 50 win yet..

Not only do you have poor sports knowledge, you have been on this board making excuses for 12,13 years lmao 🤣

What a hypocrite. Have a great day!

It’s great having a big that is an offensive threat (honestly Lazar is more than a threat, he’s good), but he’s not a rim protector, nor is he good in his defensive positioning or intensity.
I thought so too in the Bona game--chance to be one of the best scoring big men we've had in quite awhile----but watching him on D he had slow feet and reaction times. He is getting better though.

I think it’s way early to be thinking Martelli is not right for us. You remember Odom’s first year when we were appalled at the defense we were playing in November as December? Remember the embarrassment of us trying to fly the “It’s Havoc You Fear” banner?

Last night’s rotations we not pleasant for me with Hill sitting more and less Lazar it seemed in the first half, but I’ve felt like Martelli’s rotations have been better than previous coaches. I also think he leaves guys who are “hot” longer where others would have stayed with script and pull the hot guy.

Also, our offense has been good except for last night, and in starting games for the most part. Defense has been getting better. We held St. Louis more than 20 elbow their average and this wasn’t cause we were sitting on the ball.

We need better players, and that’s on the coach but is hard place too much blame on for Year 1. Evans and Tracey have been underwhelming. There’s Ward. He did well with the 2 guards, but they are young. He also did well with Lazar, though we don’t have a rim protector that we can bring in.
The difference is Odom had a much longer track record of success. It was easier to trust that he knew what he was doing. Why should anyone trust a guy who coached 2 years at Bryant?

Phil is an analytics guy. Getting the right players to the line.

Since Evans is a career 54.9 Ft shooter, he isn't going to be in a position to get attempts by design.
Not sure I buy that. The only year Martelli coached him he shot twice as many FT per game.
Coaches don’t coach players not to get fouled that is silly.
Evans is also on the court at crunch time.
I would bet the opposite that Martelli wants Evans to be more aggressive and finish at the rim through contact
But it is natural that when we are ahead and the opposition is fouling the ball will be in the hands of Hill, Jennings and Nyk or Nowell

You may be right. You may be wrong. I do know we have some history on this issue. Capel. Shaka.

MB gets/causes lots of boards and has active hands on defense though. I agree with Mitchell....he hasn't seen an open three he doesn't like yet
He also doesn’t kick it out when he gets it in the paint either (even if a dbl team comes leaving someone open.

I like Mitchell but he’s got work to do on his game.

Same. Also mildly surprised they seemed to function just fine without Avila (although of course that was one night and one particular match up)
Avila was complaining the other day about his decrease in minutes. Said the coach didn't like him. I don't know if it was tongue in cheek or not. Guy definitely has some skills, but I think he has some big weaknesses too. Borrowing from a former VCU coach, he's definitely not as tough as a $2 steak.

He's a good shooter and a good passer. He also has good size and clearly a high basketball IQ. BUT, he's slow as molasses in Minnesota in January. He draws so many fouls because everyone else is moving full speed around him, and he's basically a gigantic Minion-shaped pylon on the floor.

I think it was pretty firmly tongue in cheek.
