He did lose the locker room. I got to see that first hand stopping online fights between players, families, and fans. The players and families deliberately tried to undermine Rhoades online to turn fans against him. We were preseason #1 and finished 7th due to a complete collapse.

One of my favorite message board games is trying to guess what idiotic drivel is typed by some of these slack jawed yokels....Alas, I use the ignore function....so I'll never know.

But I do agree with you RRR....That VCU Rams team really is a dark chapter of our recent history. Infighting, parents getting involved, weaponized social media.....isn't that the year Deriante quit??

Yep, drivel it is. The collapse goes far deeper and was, IMHO, NOT the total fault of MR. He was dealt a bad hand that year.

No it was not his total fault. We had some players with egos and such who couldn’t handle their role. Many coaches would have done bad with that team. They had talent but they were not in any way a team. And the families? Good lord.

Mitchell is 21% from 3. His shot looks good until you realize how much of a line drive it is. Needs some of Nowell’s arch.

I was hoping Mitchell would be better. Can’t believe that I suggested at some point in the pre-season that he should be taking some of Lazar’s minutes because he would rebound better. Dumb suggestion.

So whats the issue with this team? Preseason #1, currently in 6th place with no top 50 wins. If vcu lose tomorrow, they will be in 7th or 9th place where Rhoades was at.

Rhoades was in his 3rd year coming off a NCAA appearance with pretty much the returning team. Phil is a 1st year head coach 3 months into his job with mainly a new roster.

Three games does not a season make. The regular season champion will most likely have 3-4 losses. You will normally drop one at home while needing to go 6-2 (or 6-3) on the road. Tall order for any team. Not like we dropped a home game to Fordham. St Louis is very good. Lots of games to go. Way too early to press panic. And you know what? If we do lose tomorrow, the sun will rise on Sunday and life will go on.

At this point, just get the top 4 finish for the double bye in Pittsburgh.

More than doable.
 
I can’t believe how many posters are freaking out 3 games into conference play. VCU has one loss to the best team in the conference, one win against a team that has owned VCU since VCU joined the A-10 and one solid road win at Duquesne. I highly doubt any other A-10 team started conference play with the opening 4 game schedule VCU has had to face.
