As we say in the academic world, UR and VCU are not PEER institutions; however, they are PEER athletic institutions -- same NCAA level, with same entry standards, D1 schools and in the same athletic conference.

As a 1973 VCU grad, I down right despise the Spiders. I watch UR televised games just to root against them. As I say nearly every day, the only good spider is a dead spider!!!

We were selling out games before we joined the A-10 and we'll be fine if Richmond decides to join the Patriot League. We kicked ODU to the curb and life went on without them. Yeah, it's cool having a local team in the same conference. But we can have similar rivalry with Mason if/when they ever get their stuff together.

I have a different perspective. More of a holistic appreciation for college basketball in the city of Richmond and not just from a VCU lense.
 
When a childhood friend/classmate you still hold in your heart tells you at a VCU game, in passing, "hey man, hope your mom doing OK?", and thankfully I can immediately respond, "oh she's good, she's good! Why?" Well, it's a few days after a spider smashing and she's a spider fan... "OH!"

For context: You and my VCU grad friend with a UR law degree (as well as all like others) are spared my Spider Death Wish. It is just something I like to say that traces back to the many A-holes who matriculated to UR from Southside Virginia high schools. There were also some good guys, but they were outnumbered by the jerks. And, of course, I was an artsy, independent thinker that went to that Hippie School in downtown Richmond. Those were different times in the late 1960s, and UR now has a different geographically drawn student population. To be fair to UR, I also dislike VPI, and that dislike has grown steadily over the years. GO RAMS!!!

There was a post on our board that seemed to ask “when is the Ram/spider game?”
Another guy said it was at 4pm. You missed it.
So first guy clarified, I meant when is it going to actually be a game…
