As you wait for the tournament to begin, imagine you're me and you have to wait until March 21 to learn the outcome. goshdarn I hope VCU makes it in so I can look forward to a game the next day! When is our first A-10 game?

Question is- Who do we play? We play the winner of the 8-9 game.

There are three teams involved in the fight for the 7-8-9.

GW is finished and sits at 9-9. SBU and DU are both 8-9 with one game to go.

SBU plays @ Davidson.

DU plays @ SLU.

One of the three is going to end up in the #7 position.

Both SBU and DU win-

7- DU
8-GW
9-SBU

SBU wins and DU loses-

7-GW
8-SBU
9-DU

DU wins and SBU loses-

7-DU
8-GW
9-SBU

Both DU and SBU loses-

7-GW
8-SBU
9-DU

So all we have to watch is what does DU does. They win and they are the 7. They lose and GW is the 7. Being the 8 or 9 does not matter for anything but for being the home or away team.

I'm cheering for the DU win.

If we are able to win that first game on Friday, we would play the winner of the 5-12-13 vs the 4 game. The 4 and 5 teams are set, with LC and SJU. We don't know which is which, but one will be the 4 and one will be the 5. ur is set at the 13. The 12 is still up for grabs.

Gonna be tough. Probably Bona or Duquesne first followed by Loyola or St Joe's and most likely Dayton. VCU has beaten every team in the A10 so we know they can win it. Tournament pressure is a different animal so we shall see soon how they handle it.

When someone asks me about VCU "heading to a conference tournament," I think of 1980 and the Rams' very first trip to such an event - the Sun Belt championships in Charlotte.

As the fifth seed, VCU knocked off host UNCC, 100-93 (destroying attendance), South Alabama, 75-72, and UAB, 105-58 - repeat, 105-58, thus qualifying for its first NCAA bid.

In a deal VCU made with tournament officials, VCU students were admitted free to the finals. This was a rare TV event and the less empty seats the better for image of a fledgling conference. A few made the journey and took the deal.

Many more watched on TV and, in a rare sign of unity on an apathetic campus, gathered in Monroe Park to drape the trees in celebratory TP and create the widest holding-hands embrace in hoop history. People who had never seen a single Rams game before were feeling the black 'n' gold magic.

VCU can only hope this year's tournament ends as well as its first.

I drove down to Charlotte from Martinsville for the final. Went to the team's hotel and someone from Athletics gave me a free ticket. We crushed UAB but I thought the score was more like 105-85.

UMass can sneak into the 8/9 game too under 1 condition:
Bona wins and finishes 9-9, UMass beats Loyola and finishes 8-10, Duquesne loses and finishes 8-10. Bona would be the 8 seed and UMass and Duquesne would be tied for 9th with UMass getting the tiebreaker for going 1-0 vs Duquesne. We'll see!

The one silver lining from last night is Dayton clinched the #3 seed with that win last night. That puts them on the opposite side of the bracket from VCU. Right now, Dayton is playing as good as any team in the conference.

OK, missed that one. That would be nice for VCU, forcing DU out of our possible bracket and letting Umass in. That would be fine with me.

EDIT: UMass lost. Now DU controls.
