TJ was at the game last night. And afterwards, I was over at Popkin's Tavern with some friends, celebrating the victory, and I got into some great conversations. It's a great place to go after a game, and celebrate & relax. Anyway, the guy I was talking to was telling me his ride was on the way, and that his girl would be coming in to get him. He said "TJ" is with us, and that he played for the RAMS recently. All I could think of was TJ Gwynn..... so sure enough, maybe 10 minutes later..... here comes TJ Gwynn over to the bar, and chatted with us for a bit, before they left.

I had met TJ once before, but only briefly. Man- what a great guy- at least, seemingly. He was extremely nice, and cordial. And he seemed pretty humble. We were teasing him a little bit about being a bit of a local celebrity, and he was laughing about it. A super nice guy. He looked fantastic, and I would have SWORN that he had lost about 20 pounds. He laughed again, and said that everyone keeps telling him that. He responded that "it's the hair." He was very clean cut, and the dreads are gone. Said he was working a fat government job up in NOVA, and that he liked it. Says things are going really well. I hope that truly is the case, and not just him making simple conversation. I hope he finds success in life. Seems like an awesome cat.

TJ is extremely well-spoken too. Anyway, I know several of you younger guys know him. So maybe you can add to the story. But it seems like TJ has moved on in life, and is doing just fine. Great to see.

Didn't see Jesse this time, but have seen him a couple of times this year. Man- what a great player!

TJ is a RAM! He's one of us. I think his name is DistrictBaller in real life. ;)

I met TJ for the first time at the game down at Wake Forest....you know, the one where Alex Harper actually had an offensive side (the good one.....where you score points) to his game?!? TJ was being recruited and I believe had signed with VCU, if not then he signed shortly after that game. He didn't know me from the next guy, but he and his family were very cordial and sincere with their conversation, and were really into the game. TJ was quite pissed with the officiating and said "Man, WE had that game and they took it from us!" lol.....he would have made a quality C section member if he didn't have the on-court talent!

so was tim harris

Tim is in great shape and looks very similar to when he played. Tim wasn't the best athlete but he could hit the open shot and man did Tim hustle.

Yeah- Tim and his boy are both good ball players. Life- I was at that game too, down in Raleigh, and you're right- it was right before the ink dried on the TJ Gwynn signing. And you're also right that we had that game won. And the only two reasons we lost were Chris Paul scoring 6 points in like 11 seconds- from the same EXACT spot on the stinkin' court. Nailed about a 22 footer from the elbow, stole the ball, ad nailed it again, from just about the same spot. And reason # 2 would be the officiating. Not to be a baby, but the refs were bought and paid for by the NCAA, even if only through mind control. Sheesh. We stood just about zero chance, after watching the Manhattan Jaspers take apart the Florida Gators.

Every time Dom Jones, or anyone else, for that matter, got within a foot of CP3, the whistle blew. It was ridiculous, and what was more ridiculous is that Dom was playing with a serious handicap, because of this. IMHO, Dom totally outplayed Paul- and Paul played extremely well. We should have won that game for sure. One of the all-time tragedies of VCU basketball.

On a side note, anyone from the old Zone remember all the Wakers ragging on us, and talking about how we didn't even belong on the same court with them. ACC this. Embarrassment that. All pure crap. And remember who came to the rescue on the boards? The ODU fans went NUTS!!! While most of us were in shell-shock, and really didn't even know quite what to say...... the ODUers went berzerk. Put them in their places, and I thought that was great. And ironic that it comes to mind today- one day before ZERO-HOUR!! I also remember leaving the RBC Center, all dejected, and that a LOT of Wakers were coming up to us, saying things like "Man- you guys are awesome. We barely excaped a GREAT VCU team," and congratulating us. Still- a shallow moral victory! But a great game, and a great VCU team.

Oh yeah- Shuler was at that game too- right before he came to Richmond.

That wasn't Chris Paul, he got us in the tournament in 04 when the refs let him shoot 300 free throws in that game. The NIT game was Justin Gray lighting us up.... :x

Oh sorry- I thought you were talking about the 04' NCAA game. My bad.
