Sitter got caught by the filter. Should have been BAD A--

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

Why stop at 10? I'll submit Kenny Harris. Dude blew up at South Florida.

For the VCU newbies like myself whose VCU memories only go back a few years -

Big shot Brad
(I am hoping he gives us alot more support to that nomination over the next 3 years...)

Clutch guys:
Obviously Maynor (George Mason in the CAA final, beating Duke on a jumper with 1.8 left in the NCAA's)
Rolando Lamb (Northeastern buzzer-beater in the '85 NCAA first round)
Michael Brown (was clutch from the get-go)
Kenny Harris (single-handedly won the USF game in the second half)
Michael Doles (absolutely clutch down the stretch to beat a Blizzard-led UNCW team at Siegel)
B.A. Walker (beat Drexel with a jumper at the buzzer, back when the Bashir Mason saga was fresh)
Bo Jones (70-foot buzzer-beater to beat East Carolina was pretty sweet)
Brad Burgess (already has a penchant for big late 3's against UR and Mason last year)

BAD--- guys:
Troy Godwin (a beast down-low that no one had an answer for and our last true back to the basket guy)
George Byrd (led VCU to the first CAA championship in 1996)
Kendrick Warren (would dunk on anyone, anytime)
Calvin Duncan (one of the top players in the country in the early 80's)
Phil Stinnie (great all-around player)
Tyron McCoy (great scorer, absolutely ripped up Mason in the early 90's)

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

My vote would have to go to Calvin Duncan. 20 seconds left in the game VCU down by one or a deuce, everyone in the building knew who was going to take the shot. At 10 seconds there would be a clear out and Calvin would drive down into the paint, usually with the defender draped all over him ( the foul was rarely called in this situation) and BOOM he would invariably hit the shot while being mugged. In the case of a rare miss he was big enough and strong enough to go back up and get it for another shot. Perhaps my memory softens with time but I swear to you Rev. Duncan was money.

I think you may be mistaking him for Bernard Hopkins

Hats off to Art for catching DB in a mistake. I stand in awe sir.

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

Both Byrd and Hopkins were on that team.....but Art is right....Bernard led the team and was CAA Player of the year.

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

Just went with 10 years b/c I'm getting ear f-cked with all of this "Best of the decade" nonsense every time I turn on the t.v. or radio. I thought I would be able to rise above. I was wrong.

Good stuff on all of these guys. I will never forget Bo's shot against ECU. That was the most ridiculous shot I've ever seen in person.
Bobby Anthony will always be the man. Mike Doles is one of the coolest guys I've ever met in my life. Kenny Harris, Bernard Hopkins, and Sheron Mills were insane in 96.

T.J. is definitely on that list for the same reason JPR is. ALL HEART, ALL OF THE TIME!!!!

L.F. Licholitav (sp.?) gets a nod as well for the time he rolled into my apt. with 2 40's and screamed, "Who wants to get their drink on?" as I was having dinner with my girlfriend and her mother for the first time. He was one floor off on the party, which we later went to (with Mom!).

Go Rams.

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

Rodney Ashby v Lousiville
Danny Kottak v Georgetown
Chris Brower et.al.

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

Chris "Bombs Away" Brower. Now that' s a name to remember. He didn't take any crap from any Odie Who Pussycats either.

Re: Top 10 Coolest/Biggest sitter/Clutch/ Rams in the past 10

Dom Jones was for sure The Mr. Clutch before Maynor got here, did not see him out there. Has got to be top 4-5. Maynor, Jones, JPR, Doles, Burgess, Walker round out the top 5 of the decade (in that order in my opinion. We did not win enough in the '90's to determine who was clutch. Brower and Harris come to mind. The '80's I was to young to remember who was Mr. Clutch. My dad speaks of Randy Corker standing with his hand in the air in perfect follow through after he hit a game winner. (Maybe Georgetown) After the opposing fans had been chanting Porker the whole game.
