Despite the fact the Southern Illinois University men’s basketball team has yet to ink a player for one of the three open scholarships it has for the 2010-11 season, the Salukis were able to secure a verbal commitment from 6-8 forward Treg Setty from Maysville, Ken., according to the Louisville Courier-Journal and as first reported by Evan Daniels from Scout.com on Twitter.
The news of a living, breathing recruit actually wanting to play at Southern Illinois is a sign that things can move in a positive direction.
According to Setty’s Yahoo! Sports profile, SIU beat out Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt and Xavier (among others) for Setty’s services. He also fielded offers from Miami (Ohio), Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth, Wright State, Akron and Georgia.
