Thinking about flying down Tulane and wondering what people who have made the trip to Tulane in the past (Metro days) or to NO might recommend for a hotel near the arena. Looking for something decent but not extremely expensive within walking distance.

I LOVED the Metro days (we're in the minority DLRam, maybe rightfully so)...Gerald Honeycutt was a beast and a half. Not the finest hour for VCU basketball...but the competition and NBA up and comers was super.

I watched VCU basketball as a small child during the Metro days. It was my first introduction to college basketball, so while they may not people the best, they are special to me.

Plane tickets are only 200 out of BWI...you should check around (I am leaving out of Pittsburgh though)

I think someone said there is a Saints game going on at the same time so hotels might be a problem.

Saints vs Cowboys

Agreed. There are even some good memories from the Sun Belt.

I made my reservations some time ago, but I got JW Marriott (near Bourbon Street and the French Quarters) for $98 a room + taxes. Got Air Tran from Richmond for $98 + taxes (one way). I will need to taxi to the game, however. I went to many, many games in both the Metro and Sun Belt. Fond memories of each.

Take the trolley up St. Charles Street. It will drop you off within 2-3 blocks of the arena. There is a Tulane University stop. It will cost you $2 max. It's a great experience and you really get to see the Garden District. Go early and you can grab lunch at the Camelia Grill just past Tulane at the end of St. Charles Street. The food is awesome. Great burgers and hot aple pie alamode with the pie heated on the grill in front of you. Great milk shakes too. The type of food you love after a long night in the French Quarter. It's a landmark.

I've never been, but this morning this paragraph makes me want to go desperately bad.

What he said..

Get ready to stand in line at Camelia Grill for a while. The seating is extremely limited!

Hey, thanks Wolfpack Ram! The game is at 1:00 p.m. (CT) so we can have an early lunch or perhaps lunch after game. Also, thanks for the trolley idea. I know at least a dozen Ram fans going. They, too, will appreciate your info. After reviewing VCULee info, it looks as if it's going to be an after-the-game lunch!
