Tyrell Ward is a Ram! Never left but we are so back

Seth Davis has a great Q and A about the latest CBB landscape development.

One of the biggest...a possible collective bargaining agreement between college players and the NCAA..

Plus the fact the G league players can play as long as they've never played in college before

That's on top of NIL agents, GMs, Revenue sharing.

Aside from the Billion dollar owners...how much more pro can you get?
So I haven’t read everything but what I haven’t seen is this, will the NCAA waste time publishing a date to withdraw from the draft to be eligible. I understand, don’t agree, with the statement of treating the G league players the same as Euro league players but like Cal said themselves da rules and the rule is if you don’t withdraw from the draft because x date, you are no longer eligible

The crazy thing is we're discussing this even as a possibility.

JD takes good care of himself. I saw firsthand his highs and lows in FSG. I will say that his preparation and organization of practice were without many peers. ( Others that ran their practices like this were names you would know: John Wooden, Dean Smith, Bobby Knight,...)
And the results on the court speak for themselves. By all reports he could be tough on his players but as he said he recruited the kind of player who thrived under that. Not stated straight forward but implied is that he regretted leaving VCU. What he had going here was special. I would have loved seeing him coaching Kendrick, the Russian guy, Sherron Mills and Kenny Harris.

Not all the guys liked his style. In fact, most didnt care for him as a person.

They loved his assistants. Him not so much.

crazy how bad of a spot Ward is in. What did he do to get in the doghouse like this? He looked engaged in the huddle tonight. With the way we were shooting tonight, for him to not get in... yeesh.

This is a terrible take.... sorry not sorry.

First off, if Every single person that has or currently has an issue with ANYTHING regarding the program, the athletics dept, the performance on the court, how much NIL one person is receiving, ticket prices, OOC Schedule, certain information not being public information (such as how much a player is making, the real reason for a players absence from a team..... etc.) If every single person that had/has anything to complain about stopped donating..... our program would fall apart..... because guess what.... even things are going well..... there's always something that could be better.

Second of all, you're telling @duncanlamb & @Wolfpack Ram to stop donating because they stating their particular issues with certain things going on in or around the program?.....

Well how bout this..... how bout you stop reading these boards, or put them on ignore because you don't like what they are saying? You're over here getting pissy because they're airing their grievances (which is their right) and you're telling them they have no right to complain about things "just because they donate to the RAF or NIL, or buy season tickets..... Well Newsflash dude..... you have no right to tell them what they can and can't complain about.

This isn't the Facebook positive group where everything's gotta be blue skies and sunshine pumping 24/7/365. So Get the F*** over yourself.

If anyone's being hypocritical.... it's you. Because you're telling someone else to stop complaining, while complaining about their complaining. Again, if you don't wanna read what they gotta say, put them on ignore.

Also.... the only real reason REAL Pro Sports teams shouldn't be brought into this discussion.... is because REAL Pro sports teams like teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL... etc. They have multi million & billion dollar owners. They can afford fans not buying tickets, not showing up to games, not buying concessions & still have their team operational. Go look at the (Formerly known as) "Oakland" Athletics..... or go look at the Washington Commanders under Dan Snyder.

Their stadiums are/were empty FOR YEARS. Fans were boycotting the games for numerous reasons.... did their teams fold? No.... and only the A's ended up relocating (which was gonna happen anyway as the Oakland Coliseum is/was a dump & their lease was up at the stadium I believe). But despite all the fans boycotting those teams for years, and The Commanders (Formerly known as Redskins) who lost their Fed Ex Sponsor & had to rename their current stadium because of it..... their teams are still operational.

Meanwhile..... what would happen to our Sports Programs, if every single Donor, season ticket holder, Sponsor, NIL contributor.... etc. that has ever had an issue with ANYTHING surrounding our program or Ath. Dept..... just woke up & decided tomorrow.... "I'm done, I'm not spending another penny on VCU Athletics, The Ram Athletic Fund, NIL.... etc."

Our Sports Programs would fall flat on their faces..... we would no longer survive as a D1 program.

Just like,There's a number of reasons we don't have football at our school.... most of us don't want it, there's no real viable option of a place to play (tho with the new stadiums & fields around the Diamond being built, they could've factored that in, if we had plans to play football anytime in the near future)..... BUT you know what probably, the biggest reason we don't have football is?....... We don't have the funding to support it! And unlike our former rivals down in the 757..... we're not willing to kill our solidly successful basketball program just to try and start a football team.

Wolfpack still donates & supports the program because he cares about it & wants it to succeed. If he didn't care about the program, or didn't want to see it succeed... he wouldn't donate to the program AND he probably wouldn't waste his time complaining about issues that he sees. Or he'd do what everyone accuses DL of doing 95% of the time & start trolling our fan base on these message boards just to get everyone riled up.

Well your take is irrational. Of course a program will fold if every single person who donates suddenly stops. But every single person who donates isn’t on the boards saying they don’t trust what the program does with their money and angry about how much the program spent on a NIL deal in hindsight, thinking THEIR money was wasted on the deal. Most people donate to a program to spend it how the people who work for the program see fit, as their livelihoods and reputations hinge on their decisions, much more than any investment we think our donation may give us.

I’m not telling EVERYONE to stop donating. I’m only telling a person who said they are angry about their donation and how the program treats them to stop. Why should I get the f over myself? I’m not the one acting like my money is being wasted. I’ve said zero things about myself. I don’t act like what I give to the program means that I get any more particular say in how it’s spent than any other person who donates.

It’s just logical. If you don’t like how your money is being spent, don’t spend it on that thing. It’s true for all things, not just basketball.

It’s not personal. I just get frustrated seeing people act like they DESERVE something out of their donation other than their seats and the natural highs and lows of being a fan of a school and a program. If you’re donating millions, you deserve some cool merch and conversations, suites, appreciation, and yes, a space to share concerns about the fan experience, but you still don’t get to act like an NIL deal not working out is personal to YOU.

yeah, I've heard the same thing. I'm about as far from an insider as you can get, so I don't really know, but have heard others say that. The results on the court could not be denied though.

No my take is not irrational.

First off.... this is a message board.... and everyone has a right to free speech thanks to the First Amendment.

You have the right to voice your displeasure with reading what @Wolfpack Ram says in regards to how much he donates, and his concerns or issues that he has with the AD or anything else .... but guess what.... He has the same right to voice his displeasure about anything he wants regarding the program. Last time I checked.... you didn't create these message boards. You're not even an admin on these message boards. Stop trying to act like Message Board police telling to stop complaining or stop donating.

And also last time I checked, when these message boards were created..... there was no "agreement" we had to sign.... that said we couldn't talk about... donation amounts, issues/concerns we have about the current administration, players playing time, among other things. And there has been no "updated terms of agreement" that has "changed the rules" on these forums to include any such thing.

And what @Wolfpack Ram has said in recent days or months..... is nothing that plenty of others have not brought up before. Go back during Covid.... when they decided to do a reseating DURING THE MIDDLE OF COVID..... and also lets not forget with the whole Tax refund situation going on.... where they tried to create a loophole where everyone paid an EXTRA $250 "for the right to buy tickets" because they "thought" it would get people around the tax deduction issues.... turns out that was all a crock of $#!t & they were really just getting more money out of us.

And you say you're only telling @Wolfpack Ram to stop donating.... because hes the only one vocalizing his opinions right? So by doing that.... you're basically telling everyone else who has or had any issues with anything surrounding the program to either STFU & deal with it or stop donating. That's basically what you are saying to EVERYONE, while directing your complaint at @Wolfpack Ram because he's the one being vocal at the time.

And to that I tell you, to Get the F*** over yourself. If people have complaints about anything.... it's their right to voice those opinions. If you don't wanna listen.... you don't have to. There's a thing called an ignore feature, so that you don't have to read about his "complaining" or "entitlement"

It's also logical, that if you want things to change.... you have to voice your opinions on it. If you don't like how something is done.... sure you can stop donating, stop supporting it... etc.... But if you don't voice your opinions, concerns, issues.... no one will ever know what the problems are, so they won't know what to fix.

Now.... that doesn't mean that fans posting stuff on a Message Board will get an action or Reaction out of Ed, The Ath. Dept. PMJr., The players or anyone else that is connected to the program. It also doesn't mean that someone who is connected to one of those people isn't reading these message boards and passing along those concerns, issues, ideas, etc. to someone who does have a voice..... someone who does have the power to do something.

Again this is not a Pro Sports team (even though College Athletics seem to be heading that direction)..... this is college athletics. If fans who have an issue with a team stop donating/supporting a team..... the team will fall. The Program will fall. If everyone who voiced their anger/displeasure years ago with the $250 "right to purchase tickets" fee crap & reseating during covid.... all stopped right then and there 4-5 years ago..... where do you think this program would be right now? In the $#!tter.

Also, I have yet to see where @Wolfpack Ram said "I deserve this" or "I deserve that" just because hes a long time donor & a Capital Campaign Member. He's simply just voicing his frustrations & concerns with the current situation..... Which whether you like it or not.... Is his right!

If you don't like it & don't wanna see it..... put him on ignore. Simple as that. Some people on these message boards are actually open to other peoples opinions, concerns, issues, regarding a number of different things around the program.... and will converse about it cordially. If you can't handle that.... then maybe you're the problem. Not him.

I’m not saying he can’t say it. I’m saying he’s hypocritical in complaining about his money and how it may or may not be spent by the program, implying that his money is wasted on a bad NIL deal in HINDSIGHT, and then still choosing to donate and complain again the next year having said he’s unhappy about the program and their behaviors toward him. It’s super specific. It’s not about free speech, all donations, NIL deals, or what donors should expect.

I want him to keep donating. In a VCU fan. I told him that if he doesn’t like it, he can stop.

I hope that guy realizes his money is still well spent even when he gets frustrated, and I hope he makes a similar ā€œproā€ list of all the great things he can think of his money supporting in the program. I hope he thinks about it and KEEPS choosing to donate. I just don’t think it’s ever logical for ANYONE to claim that players who don’t work out are wasting their own personal money. THAT’S NOT A LOGICAL PERSPECTIVE, by your own concerns about free speech on the boards, you should defend me being able to say it’s not a logical statement without telling me to go f myself. It’s not that serious.

You’re taking very specific comments on a very specific statement and turning it into extremes and sweeping generalizations and assumptions. Those tactics don’t work on me or most rational people.

Tyrell was rated No. 23 in the Rivals150 by Rivals.com and ranked No. 34 in the ESPN 100 and 34 in the 247Sports.com composite ratings coming out of HS. He was a star with the Boo WIlliams EYBL team. Decent freshman year at LSU but really made a jump his sophomore year to the tune of 21 minutes a game averaging a little over 9 ppg.
He, bravely in my opinion, had the wherewithal to step back and work on himself last season......and was ABSOLUTELY a player worth recruiting, signing, and bringing into the VCU program

it hasn't worked out, at least not yet. And we could d@mn well use a guy with his skillset right about now....so, there's really no point in getting all 12 Angry Men about it on the message board unless the aim is to just vent your spleen.....it's an overused and trite saying....But it IS what it IS

until it isn't....

the books not closed on Tyrell Ward in black and gold yet....I'm just glad my struggles and failures in my early 20's weren't on nearly as public a display....(and YES, I would've loved to had earned tens of thousands of dollars but that was then and this is now...also, I was hot garbage at playing basketball)

Tyrell's struggles are between the ears. I don't mean that disparagingly at all. It's clear that he lacks confidence. You can see it in the way he moves on the court. When I was his age, I went through brutal periods of self-doubt and a lack of confidence.

I played a few different sports up through high school, and no matter who the coach was or what sport it was, they all said something like this: sports are 90% mental. Here's hoping he can get himself in a good space mentally.
