UNC-W Coaching Search Thread

darn, saw somewhere UNCW got turned down by 7 people. Guess they aren't the draw they think only selling point is you get to live by the beach

All this mess, the timing of the Moss firing, the lack of a plan to hire a new coach and the inability to find one can be laid squarely on the shoulders of one Kelly Mehrtens, AD UNCW.

It must be so pleasant at the beach that the mob can't get it together to tar and feather her and ride her out of town on a rail.

seriously... the best justification I heard for chopping Moss in-season was to get a jump on the process before everyone else got on the carousel... yeah, so...not so much

Agreed, the negatives outway the positives with the UNCW Job biggest one being questionable leadership

On the Zone there is a post about Vince Taylor (asst. at Minn w/Tubby) as a strong possibility. He has been an asst at Louisville for 7 years, asst w/ NBA timberwolves, then with Tubby. Might be interesting.

OT to the Dub's search, but probably worth noting somewhere (but not worthy of its own thread)

Holy Cross fires its coach after just one season.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/stor ... ps_5041801
. . .Kearney, who was brought in after Ralph Willard left to join Rick Pitino's staff at Louisville, went just 9-22 in his one season at the helm and lost to Lafayette in the Patriot League semifinals. . . .

Unless there are other issues, it sounds like Holy Cross is looking to put together a winning program and won't stand for losing.

Are ya listening Towson?
Are ya listening Delaware?
Are ya listening GaSt?

The poor UNCW fans have really fallen on hard times. But they still have the ability to make some good jokes. Hilarious! Love that application.

Funny AND sad.

Karmically-speaking, it seems that in shipping, the SIB was returned to sender.

over on El Zono, some of the c-hawk faithful are saying that Citadel head coach Ed Conroy has been offered the job... no word on if he's accepted yet

Not that I've followed his career, but Conroy seems to have done a pretty fair job at the Citadel. The dub could do a lot worse.

What have they done to once a proud program? This guy would be fired anywhere else. Unfortunately like the real sea birds that hovers the beach UNCW are left scavenging for left overs and hand outs. Comon……………..I really feel for them. Their alums are partly to blame by not demanding their worthless athletic director to step down.

Below are the marks for Ed.

Wins Losses Pct
Overall Games 91 116 0.44
Conference Games 29 48 0.377
NCAA Tourney Games ) 0
Close Games (decided by < 6 pts) 17 14 0.548
Blowout Games (decided by > 19 pts) 12 20 0.375

UNCW is has become a joke of a program and is a pitiful shadow of it's former self.

They've offered a coach who is probably your tenth choice, and has a sub-500 record in the SoCon, and yet their abysmal AD will probably taut it as a exactly who they wanted, and a perfect fit.

I guess she can't be too abysmal at her job though, I mean they still manage to win at baseball and swimming I think. Give her a contract extension!

This is unreal. That is the best they can get? Well they haven't gotten him yet either. Just pitiful. If their AD stays beyond her contract there will be major problems with their program....as if there isn't one already.

Going into the 3rd month of their search and they can only sign a sub .500 guy.

At least he will be in good company....we have Pat Kennedy, Monte Ross, Barnes, and now Conroy.
