UNC-W forward John Fields heading to Tennessee

We still may see him again. Tennessee is in the pre-season NIT this coming year.

Only one year of eligibility (senior year) and he transfers...must have been very unhappy. Why should he be given a waiver to play immediately??? - Because he already sat out a year after transferring to UNCW from ECU?....that doesn't seem right. He ought to have to just sit out again. Is there some rule that limits the total years of D1 eligibility as far as play and scholarship. Seems to me that if he is at the limit of his scholarship eligibility time it is his tough luck (unless there are some very extenuating circumstances....and simply because you aren't happy about the new coach isn't a good enough reason IMO.

so jay gavin can switch to another D1? or can fields only do it because he is a rising senior?

Fields garduated from UNCW-he is getting a masters I aassume. But apparently if you graduate and have eligibility you play the next season. This is his 3rd stop in his career, starting at ECU as a frosh.

The NCAA rule is that if you graduate with eligibility remaining and decide to pursue a graduate degree not offered at your university, you can transfer and use play out the remainder of your eligibility immediately.

xJohnx explained the Fields deal. Gavin could transfer to another D1, sit out a year, then play for a year if he wanted to. I think he decided to go to DII Bowie State in MD where he can play for 2 years. It will be tough for him after only playing a handful of organized games in the past two seasons, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him getting things together and really do well there.
