Syracuse lost to DII Lemoyne tonight in an exhibition game

I was just about to post this!

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4620949

Keep in mind - Le Moyne is Syracuse's Virginia Union (around 3 miles away; VUU's around 2 miles away from us). However, this upset is huge - especially since Le Moyne has recently decided to reclassify to Division I (as soon as the NCAA moratorium ends). This gives them immediate legitimacy - and should help them seal conference affiliation, which will help them justify reclassification to the NCAA (I believe the MAAC is already open ears - especially with a good number of fellow Jesuit schools to help vote 'em in).

Le Moyne is one of the DII schools very dedicated to athletics - they are one of the very few "have's" in DII remaining (Union is NOT one of them...we're talking $$$$$).

You're right about that, TJ - if you accept the coaching position at Virginia Union, you better be prepared to dig into your own pockets for recruiting, uniforms, promotions, publications ... you name it.

In the recruitment of Charles Oakley, Dave Robbins twice flew to Cleveland - at his own expense.

Schools like Virginia Wesleyan, Christopher Newport and Mary Washington would actually be better equipped, financially and in terms of support staff, to step up in class than Union. VUU's national titles and success stories like Oakley, Davis, English and Wallace, has kept the flame alive ... but how long can it last?

As I recall, Virginia Union has beaten VCU before. But that is not as bad as it sounds. We have a chance to use all of our players and see what they can do. It sort of a "test of reality" before the season begins. We should be okay.

The last time VUU won a National Championship is the year they beat us. Capel was the coach.

This will make VCU assistant Mike Rhoades wear a smiley face:

Randolph-Macon defeated American, 49-47, in D.C., in an open-to-public exhibition.

Macon is a Division III member of Old Dominion Athletic Conference; Coach Jeff Jones' American squad is the Patriot League's defending champ.

Last year RMC defeated Mason in an exhibition. Many years back, the Yellow Jackets won an exhibition at East Carolina when Eric Maynor's father was playing for the Pirates.

All the players used by RMC last night were recruited by former coach Rhoades. That includes intriguing 6-9 Brandon Braxton (a rare college basketball player majoring in English) from Cape Charlie on the Eastern Shore.

The same American that dang near beat Villanova in Philly? Did they lose a lot of players?

Or they didn't get up for an exhibition the same way they did for an NCAA tournament game.

true, and wasn't it Randolph Macon that stunned George Mason last year?

VUU beating VCU is one thing...

but a D2 teams beating a preseason TOP 25 team...that's another. I know it's preseason and you're trying to get people minutes, but when the worst of your bench are 3 star recruits, and the majority are 4s and 5s...it should be a major deal.
