VCU #3 in Washington Post Atlantic 11

Noone cares about what UVA did in the past. Just like Tech, they won't play us cause they know they will lose. GO RAMS!

UVA this past decade:

2007 1-1 Defeated Albany in first round, 84-57
Lost to Tennessee in second round, 77-74

2001 0-1 Lost to Gonzaga in first round, 86-85

I know you guys are looking through the black and gold glasses (I have a pair too), but UVA's recent tournament success, which is being mocked as limited, is comparable to our recent success. We have 1 win in the NCAA's this decade and you have to go back to 1985 to find our other next most recent win. Sometimes I think VCU fans have selective memories or are getting big heads about recent media attention.

For the record, the UVA men's basketball program record looks like this:
- 16 NCAA tournaments
- 22 NCAA tournament wins
- 7 sweet 16s
- 2 elite 8s (most recently in 1995)
- 2 Final 4s
- 30 NBA draft picks

I love our team and our program, but like I said, we are not the premier program in the state. We are doing well now and I hope we continue that success, but we are in no position to put "UVA in their place". It wasn't too long ago that we had some pathetic teams ourselves. A little perspective might be in in order...at least until we win another tournament game, or two, or three, or four...

What no national title? ;)

All seriousness though yes UVA had successive seasons in the past but no one nowadays care about that. VCU is only in people's minds because of recent success. The way teams rise and fall from grace the past and present is a thin line in the NCAA. Many teams that were dominating a few years ago have now loss star players and force to give up their spot at the top. UVA can pride themselves on past success but that means nothing in the present if they don't have any success now. It kind of sucks that if a team isn't constantly good every year you fall off the map but that's how it works. Everyone remembers the Duke game and VCU nearly upsetting UCLA (Mostly Duke though). If VCU didn't do well for the next couple of years most would forget the school until it went to the NCAA tourney again and everyone thinks, "Oh that's that school that beat Duke that one year." VA Tech will just continue to be happy going to the NIT with Greenberg so they won't really be taken seriously. In a conference that receives like 3 or 4 bids its bad when you consistently go to the NIT and do nothing to change it. VT has only had 1 NCAA tourney appearance since Greenberg took over. I think UVA expects more out their team though however they have had only 2 appearances in the NCAA tourney since 2000.
