Henrico, Chesterfield, and Hanover bailed as the city told them wouldn’t get a cut when the stadium was proposed.I keep seeing this pop up. I have hearsay and my thoughts while hearing about this partnership since before any ground was broken for this baseball stadium. When it was first being talked about the counties of Henrico and Chesterfield were supposed to be involved to help with the cost. They both bailed. Ed and Parney are good friends but during this process the Squirrels had Parney take a step back. Seems to me that the rental cost escalated and my guess is that now that is close to being finished the Squirrel management does not want to share it with anyone.
Sounds like a lot of pettiness and ego.
And from my understanding, the Squirrels didn't finance the stadium right? So why do they get so much say in how it's used. Again, I don't know the ins and outs of much of this, but once this state of the art stadium is completed I would assume the City of Richmond would have zero problems getting a new tenant if the Squirrels are unhappy and decided to bounce.
Squirrels are paying like 3 million a year on the lease. The reports were they were letting us play there too for a lot less while maintaining everything.
