This may of been mentioned in another thread but a friend of mine at the game said that JMU fans were shaking the VCU basket when they were shooting foul shots. Even the refs did not warn the fans until a VCU fan yelled at the refs to put a stop to it. That should be an automatic T. Oh well we won i just wanted to bring that up after people keep saying we got a lot of calls to go our way. VCU didn't make JMU miss wide open layups.

In watching the game again, we definitely got some calls. Joey traveled big-time on that play leading up to his shot that sealed the game. Thankfully it was not called. Also the out-of-bounds call on Chad Jackson was wrong as he never touched the line. We got really lucky. I know we know how crappy it feels to be jobbed by the refs (2008 ODU game @ Stu- Maynor foul), esp. when it almost directly influences the outcome of a game. I gotta feel bad for the JMU fans, but I'm glad we got the calls to go our way. We needed that win. JMU is TOUGH...tons of talent and a great lack of discipline. If Brady can get them under control, they could be VERY, VERY good.

They are talented enough to win the CAA tournament if they put it all together.

Anybody with a great big man like Denzel is going to have a shot to win the CAA tournament. There are very few players that can take over a game with their play down low.

They're getting better too, but still haven't beaten the top teams in VA yet. Definitely not a team you wanna see in March.

It was an overall poorly officiated game for both teams. There were a lot of questionable calls. I agree that we got a lot of calls to go our way but we haven't gotten that much this season so it was nice to see some calls go our way. Jackson didn't go out of bounds on the play but that was after I watched it several times. Watching it from the stands in a live look I thought he was out of bounds. It was close. JMU can blame the officials all they want to but that won't take away from the those easy lay-ups and shots around the basket that they missed. JMU can make a nice run in the CAA tournament but they need to get over the hump down the stretch and avoid having to play on Friday. This game is in the past now, can't go back and change anything. On to Delaware which won't be an easy game either.

It is my understanding that the CAA assigns a person to each game to evaluate the officials. He reports back to the associate commissioner of basketball operations. If this is true, the file should be rather thick for the JMU=VCU game!

Both teams got shafted by calls. heck the JMU player complaining for a min and a half probably would have gotten a T in Siegel. Someone said the time out wasn't given to the JMU player was calling a time out while sliding toward the line wasn't given because they were out of them . If that's true that would be a T. Plus fans shaking the basket. Another T. So that's three possible T's. Of course if the refs had called any they would have be murdered in the Convo.

I was pretty far up and away from the baskets, not to mention visually and otherwise impaired, distracted, etc. :) Are there any videos of alleged basket shaking? Naturally there is no fair and balanced reporting at the JMU board, since they're all into conspiracy theories.

There were several times that the refs could have called a 3 second lane violation and didn't.

I remember one time early in the 2nd hlf where Shaka was doing the 3-sec motion for at least two seconds after 3 seconds had passed before Bowles scored.

They would set up in the lane, receive the pass, make a move, the double-team would come, they would pass the ball out and maybe leave the lane before the shot goes up - all that within 3 seconds? - riiiiiiight.

If anyone recorded the game, watch at around 2:07 when Hitchens stripped Joey and they scrambled for the loose ball. Joey had one hand on the ball pressed against Hitchens chest before he starting calling for the time out. Hitchens really didn't even have control of the ball. I don't know who had the possession arrow, but ref should've called a held ball.

Would love for someone else to give me their opinion on that play.

The reality is the ref missed a very big violation when Joey traveled, but they were blowing calls all game.

DB, go back and watch the last 8 minutes or so of that game. For a good 5 minutes prior to those calls you mentioned, EVERYTHING was called in favor of the Dukes. I didn't recognize any of those officials, but will most certainly say that they were AWFUL all game - BOTH WAYS. I thought it was hysterical when Brady told the one ref late in the game that he had a bad game.

Ellis mentioned on the post game that JMU was out of time outs at that point. I would love to get confirmation on that being true. Another thing to watch out for if you recorded the game, on that play at 14.8 seconds one of the assistant coaches was screaming at the ref for a timeout and one of the other assistants aggressively told him to sit down. Maybe he did that because he knew they just got a break from the ref?

The 3 second count starts back at zero when the player with position in the post receives an entry pass.

Looked to me like he DID have possession, but he rolled from his stomach to his back before calling the timeout, which should have been ruled a travel.
