This game oughta be a sellout for certain. Our attendance has been great all year, and I'd expect no exception to that. I'm looking for 7,000 plus in the seats.

Along those lines, wouldnt one think that with the "Indians" off to their best start in years they'd be drawing more fans than they are? They are only averaging 2,600 per home game. That's unbelievable to me.

Further, their largest home crowd of the season is still 2,000 less than our SMALLEST home crowd of the season. And they've played 3 homes game with under 2,000 in attendance.

I'd like to think that they'd bring a bunch of folks down here and amp up the Stu even more, but unfortunately I'd be surprised to see more than 25 folks in green and gold...
Shaver's done a real nice job. You'd think more people would be supporting him, but as I've always maintained, they just dont care about basketball at that school.

Here's hopinh the 25 folks in green and gold who do show up Wed go home severely disappointed!

Our numbers are paid attendance, so they do not include students or people that get in free(game sponsers' groups, boy scouts, kids in the rec basketball league etc). The attendance yesterday was probably more like 4K and the average a few hundred too low. Admittedly it was bad at the beginning of the season, but the Kap is starting to fill up much more and it will be rockin for ODU next saturday.

Further, we bring 50-100 to the Stu when the team is bad(I've been the last 3 years), so I doubt there are 25 in attendance wednesday.

This game is a lock to sell out.

Two hot teams that are about an hour apart, students back but with no work to do, I expect an electric atmosphere.

My wish list
1. Good cheers. I need to hear: V-C-U, V-C-U, and D-FENSE::clap clap:: D-FENSE ...the whole game.
2. Gold out. I miss those...miss the t-shirt give-aways too.
3. Fun pregame...back room of Village. I say we make that happen.

Why wouldn't you count everyone coming through the doors? That makes no sense at all. Surely, W&M would want recruits looking at the box scores for home games to see they will be playing in front of a decent size crowd if they come to W&M.

For the record, W&M's average home attendance is up this year to 2,608 compared to 1,879 last year. The average attendance for the league this year is 3,363. ODU leads the league at 6,621 followed by VCU at 6,521 and then GMU at 5,639. All other schools are averaging less than 4,000 per game. Of the three top school in attendance, VCU's arena is the smallest. Therefore, VCU leads the league in attendance based on % of capacity.

Wednesday's game should be a sellout, which could push VCU to #1 in the league in home average attendance. That's pretty impressive considering VCU doesn't have one of the top 3 largest arenas in the league.

I seriously doubt they only count paid attendance. Plus the empty seats reflect pretty accurate numbers to me.

If they are only counting ticket stubs, paid attendance is all they are counting. The students flash their ID to get in, and boy scouts/rec ballers just walk through.

Anyway, here is the 3400 from Hofstra. The corners were empty and the back of the baskets less than half full, but the rest was pretty well filled up.

They really need to scan student IDs... I bet a lot of those are cheap former students.

The Hofstra game definitely looks like a decent crowd. The VCU game I attended looked exactly what was reported.

If what you're saying is true, doesn't William and Mary know they're hurting themselves and the entire league by under reporting attendance? It doesn't take much effort to report total attendance.

Hey watch it. My ID worked for at least a year after I graduated!

Excellent post 4RunningRam. I feel W&M is a lot similar to JMU though, that being they have a lot of fans outside of Williamsburg, but have a ton of transplants in the Richmond area (Not that it gibves them an excuse not to get down to Kaplan every night). I expect to see quite a few fans at the Stu Wed. night. Probably not the ODU numbers but I wouldn't be surprised if we see 800 in the place.

I wouldn't be surprised either. W&M has been talking about this game for a while now and how they need to get tickets early before the game sells out. I expect a strong vocal group out of Williamsburg for this one. It should be electric!

Rockin? lol. That place has the atmosphere of a funeral home. Rockin might be a stretch.
