Who would win between the following teams?

8. Natty - Larry Sanders, Nick George, Chris Cheeks, Tom Motley, Dave Edwards, Jay Gavin, Neil Wake, Joey Rodriguez

1. Emit Remmus - Eric Maynor, Rolando Lamb, George Byrd, Bo Jones, Martin Henlan, Antoine Ford, Elander Lewis, Brandon Rozzell

I think SPI-DA's team squeeks out an overtime win over vcu70's team in a very hard fought game where both teams had energy to burn after their relatively easy wins in the first round.... oh wait ;)

Quick scoring guards, huge frontcourt, and a solid bench...here's the scouting report for my squad...again:

Eric Maynor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDuf1vuhM5Q ...nuff said

Bo Jones: 7th all-time in scoring average (15.2ppg), 2nd in 3pt made, 2nd in FT%...and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VJCDhhfcyk

Rolando Lamb: Led VCU to three NCAA tournament berths, All-Sun Belt first team selection twice, All-America Honorable Mention in 84 and 85, 47% from 3 in his career (1st in VCU history), 3rd all-time in career assists, #1 all-time in career steals with 257, 3rd round NBA draft pick...the original dagger ->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_2XgAtXf6c

Martin Henlan: 10th in career rebounds, 9th in rebounds/game, 9th in career blocks, 1991 Player of the Year in the BBL

George Byrd: My favorite VCU player of all-time, 3rd in FG% (57%), 6th in career blocks, THE STOPPER...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdjH94i1 ... re=related

Coming off the bench:

Elander Lewis: McDonald's All-American, transfer from St Johns, led rams in 89-90 with 14ppg

Antoine Ford: 7-0 243, played with Henlan, transfer from GT (11th in career block), 54 blocks in 87-88.

Brandon Rozzell: I really like the way this kid plays...and I wanted some local talent. We're going to see some great things from him over the next couple of seasons.

For me...

Larry - Great defensive presence, incredibly athletic, great size, dunks for days, super cool.

Nick - Can take over offensively, tons of heart and hustle, killer accent.

Cheeks - Incredible scorer (2nd highest career scoring average after only Charles Wilkins), great smile.

Big Tom - Averaged nearly a double double his senior year (18+ pts and 8+ boards), great rebounder who can score, last name is Motley so you could make "Motley's Cru (with the dots over the "u") at my games.

D Edwards - 8.47 assist average one season...that's Derron Williams like, so he can definitely create scoring opportunities for my team.

Wake - Scrappy player who can hustle and grab boards, super long arms, snappy dresser.

J Rod - More hustle, great at pickin pockets, people forget how accurate he is at shootin the 3, nice guy.

Gavin - 12+ pts as a freshman got him rookie of the year honors in the MAAC playing for Marist, my wild card off the bench.

Wow. Great matchup. I'm holding my vote in anticipation of some nonpartisan commentary. Anybody else with some knowledge of some of the older players care to chime in on how they see these matchups shaping up?

Did I mention a vote for my team is a vote of confidence for this upcoming season (Larry, JRod, Jay).

Be progressive, vote Team Natty!

PS. I noticed the majority of you have voted for Emit. Due to this odd detail I am forced to question your hoops knowledge, and therefor will be suspending your accounts effective immediately.

While I like Natty's team... the combo of EM and RL would be too much for this team to handle. Two of the best all around guard talents in VCU history and a lights out 3pt shooter in Jones combined with height and width in the paint makes this a very, VERY difficult team to beat. My vote to Emit (I hope my account remains active).

I still think you guys are totally sleeping on my frontcourt.

Emit's top rebounder is Henlan who is only 10th in career rebounds... I've got Nick who currently sits at 7th on that list...as well as Motley at 8th...not to mention Larry Sanders who has 457 in only two seasons (292 last year...almost half of what Henlan did in his career)...

And while George Byrd may be known as "The Stopper"...his 61 career blocks still fall short of Larry Sanders 95 he posted HIS FRESHMAN SEASON in only 16.6 minutes/game ...(then 92 the following year).

When Larry Sanders leads us to a National Championship this year I want a written apology from each and every one of you...

(PS. Did you know..Tom Motley is 4th all time in career double doubles at VCU? Or did you know Nick George, ...6'6 hustlin rebound grabbing Nick George, is 4th in career 3 pt %. Did you also know Chris Cheeks averaged 23.8 points/game his senior season? 1.4 more than Eric Maynor . . ....no love on this board for a well put together blue collar team)

I dont want to down play any of Natty's players because they are all great...but I just want to point out the size of our perspective frontcourts...who will Nick guard?

Martin Henlan: 6'10" 252
George Byrd: 6'8'' 250
Antoine Ford: 7'0'' 243

vs.

Larry Sanders 6'10" 215
Nick George: 6'6'' 205
Tom Motley: ?

I just honestly don't see Natty's frontcout being a factor scoring in the paint and I really don't see anyone on his team that can stop the scoring of my guards.

Like I said, I love Emit's guards...but mine "ain't no slouches" either. Once again, Chris Cheeks 20+ point career scoring average (higher than Eric Maynor)...Dave Edwards 8.47 assists in one season..highest ever for a Ram (and I believe that's before the shot clock came into play). So I got a nice little 1-2 punch there, as well as JRod or JGav coming off the bench.

BUT, while he may have size...I still think they are no where close to the caliber of players I have in the front court...

Nick George may be 6'6...but he still outrebounded everyone on Emit's squad. Add to that his ability to pop out and hit the three, and I don't think there is anyone on Emit's team who could guard him at the 3.

Tom Motley, once again not only one of VCU's top rebounders ever...but also put up more points in his career than guys named Rolando Lamb, Jessie Pellot-Rosa, Mike Schlegel, Jamal Shuler, etc....My point being he's an underrated scorer who knows how to hit the glass. (side note: I love that this whole fantasy thing has us bring back names like Tom Motley, George Byrd, etc).

Then obviously there's Larry...currently projected to go #14 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in next year's draft...as a Junior. Pretty impressive.

SO COME ON PEOPLE VOTE FOR MEEEEEE!!!! I got 3 hours to try and pull off this comeback!!!!

wow that was close...good game Natty.

just for future reference, what are the rules on a tie?

I was sure by the time I got back from my movie that you all would have come to your senses and voted me the victor...

I gotta say, very disappointed in most of you...

Good game Emit...you fought hard. Now go win it all.

As far as the rules on a tie? That's a great question...I'll try and think of something and hope it doesn't come to that...
