VCU going big with the last scholarship...

you know Chill they say the early bird gets the worm...... but if you look at how things went down for us last summer I can see value in waiting until the spring for our last commit.

2 names come to mind; Michael Bradley, was a top 100 player who had a less than average senior season, went from a 4-star down to a 2 and Donte Williams, less than average senior season, chose UGA and now I believe has failed to qualify academically.

Instead we found two potential gems in Juvonte Redick and DJ Haley.

Yea...I remember how hyped we all were about Bradley. It was down to us, Drake, and UConn...plus there was that drama about "someone telling him he couldn't major in Pharmacy and do basketball at VCU".....and then he went out and had a lousy senior year. I'm certainly looking forward to Juvonte and DJ suiting up for our Rams
 
We have another big man recruit on campus this weekend on an official visit. He's a stud JUCO from the south who put up great numbers last year. He also has a couple of visits lined up at MVC and C-USA schools. He'd have 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Thanks for keeping us informed this Summer. Its absolutely dreadful waiting for the season to start. Your post have been my only VCU basketball highlights! :lol:

Ditto.

IMHO if the coaches are focused on a juco I think it would be great. Long-term having some balance in classes is best. Having a more seasoned junior next year would be excellent.

My favorite past juco big--Bernard Hopkins. I don't think we've had as good a big with a back-to-the-basket spin move as Bernard.

Bernard Hopkins was a beast in the paint! I look forward to the day we score another juco big with his talent!

Excellent. He will still take his visits, but we look to be in the driver's seat right now. The kid averaged a double-double and over 3.5 blocks a game last year. He really came on strong late in the year at the NJCAA tournament. He could be one of the better JUCO's in the class of 2011 and is significantly better than Toby, who is going to start for us this year.

He's one of our top targets along with Jarreau who has already visited. Jarreau is a great prospect with a very high ceiling, while this JUCO is a much better player right now at this point in time. We'd do well to get either of them.

Merc i think he is enrolled there....it was shocking to me that Brady signed this guy...maybe surprising is a better word. i may be wrong
