One may wonder if Coach Smart leaves as did AG and JC what would become of our program. I say that our program will be ok. The reason I say this is because like the young coaches that prosper at our beloved University ,VCU is the hot ticket as far as coaching jobs for mid-major basketball programs. If any good coach were to latch on to this program and continue to win...he would be rewarded financially( maybe not millions but a great salar) and with a lasting career. When you jump to a so called big time program you are expected to produce right away ...meaning 1 to 2 years at tops to turn a program around. Hey it is the nature of the beast. VCU is in a decent enough league. We are in a very good location logistically. We have a great academic campus and tremendous school spirit. This makes for wonderful recruitment material for any coach. Once you are known as a preferred destination (which we are) you are able to have the pick of the litter. Meaning we can choose from the brightest and most talented coaches out there.I truly hope
Coach Smart will stay a while and help move this program to even higher levels. But like the rest I feel that if he does very well this year like going to the tournament and winning a first round game he will be highly sought out just like the rest. But don't worry...see we are a preferred destination.....we will be the ones in the drivers seat...just a thought.
