Whoever did this was out of control and hopefully gets nailed soon. Not sure how it came off as such, but the above friendly warning wasn't all victim blaming, as yes, people that aren't streetwise need a good waking up. That's what this was.
They might want to crank up the lights around campus. As soon as you get near the Stu, the street lights are non existent and/or much dimmer.

We recently got LEDs which replaced the halogen lights, and they are indeed much brighter. But I agree with out especially on harrison and other side and cross streets.

no don’t think u were victim blaming at all. i was just worried what i said would be perceived as that

I’m not on VCU campus much these days, nor am I in any way blaming this incident on the pedestrian, but I’m often stunned at the general lack of self awareness of surroundings I see when I am on campus. Even if you have a green light and walking pedestrian crossway, please take your eyes off your phone and look around. Don’t step off any curb without paying attention. Improved lighting will help drivers but, as I’ve told my two kids (when attending VCU), please pay attention, always! Prayers for this injured soul.

I think all VCU should be pedestrians and buses only, problem solved! I'm imagining biking down a car free Franklin...

making 50% of downtown Richmond, from Lombardy to Church Hill pedestrian only, would certainly make bike zealots and city planning types happy

I can attest first hand that I have encountered numerous VCU students crossing the street while obsessively looking at their phones. They are completely unaware of their surroundings. It's an accident waiting to happen.
i drive west on Broad St near Willow Lawn every night. When you cross into the county, there are no street lights and the bus stops have people walking slowly across the street, staring at there phones, usually dresses in dark clothing and not crossing at cross walks. The bus routes have exacberated the problem with much more foot traffic. I have no idea what these pedestrians are thinking with this behavior.

I have also seen some things. The ones that always get me are the drivers parked on the side of like Main or Cary who just swing their doors open all the way, especially at night.

The drivers here are very bad. Either way too slow and tentative, or just do whatever the heck they want, rules be damned. Either way they're unpredictable and dangerous. I don't mind aggressive or assertive driving as long as you're predictable, but the stuff that goes on around here is just bad.

We knew two former alive people who aren't any longer, hit and killed right on that stretch of Broad St. No lie.

RIP Randy and Sharon.

Street lights would help so much. There is so much going on in that part of Broad St with target, Kroger and a few other very busy intersections. The rolling hills can get you blinded by oncoming traffic. I am so sorry to hear that about the 2 people you knew.

Sharon was right in front of the Wendy's. Randy was further down by Krispy Kreme.

Is there a reduced speed limit on Broad where is passes through the campus? I wonder who is responsible for lighting in the area? Reduced lighting in the area could be due to the student dorms along Broad. Down here in Florida they even put in major speed humps (larger version of speed bump) in heavily trafficked areas.

BTW, doesn't the city have cameras set up on the traffic lights or poles? I know a number of cities have that in place.....we do here in FL.

VDOT has a few cameras scattered throughout the city but the ones nearest to VCU haven't been working recently.

The speed limit on Broad on campus is 25 mph. It increases to 35 mph west of Lombardy. A few of the other streets have speed humps and speed limits of 20 mph.

Just gonna out this here, I was helping a couple of friends acquire tix thru another friend, middle manning.
Worst pita ever, 😂but I learned my lesson figured I'd pass it on. Do ticket transfers on a phone, don't even bother with a PC, and don't try printing them out, I was more than 1 warning along the way saying their system is set up to work like that. this is the vcutickets.evenue site.
I was sitting here on this computer sitting beside our chair, I never use phones for anything (go thru less than 1/2gb each month never going over that. I was trying just to be able to see the tickets so I could get a screenshot and parking pass, while signed into the tickets site. Everything and anything I did would not enable me to see them. Then I figured out I could reissue tickets to my own email and then hit “add to Apple wallet“ click on them and be able to get a view of them, but still could do the parking pass. Nothing on PC would work with that., and I tried a few ways around it. Then something told me to just try it on my phone (sign into vcu evenue site on a mobile browser), there, everything above worked like a charm. Their whole site is set up so that it will not really work proficiently on a computer, everything is all about phones these days, I suppose. I hate using phones for anything except for voice dictation. Just passing this on.
