VCU Media Mentions

In an all new Rams Rewind, George sits down with VCU great Ed Nixon to talk about the past, present and future of the program, including their thoughts on the recent coaching search.

Ed ain't lying, Darius is a homebody. I was in school at the same time as them, would run into players downtown at Lucky Buddha/Blackfinn/Hat Factory. One time we were talking, and Darius came up, they said he never goes out. Also worked with him briefly after college while he would come back from European pro ball. He definitely loves VCU and would be a lifer, hope he's successful and earns a spot as HC one day.

This is a very good interview with Ed (AD) with some pretty direct questions about VCU and the future direction of the program. Ed sounded pretty honest about what we want to be and go in the future

His expectations are high. Very high.

I highly recommend Michael Phillips' excellent The Richmonder, if for no other reason than that he occasionally writes interesting stuff about the Rams. But it's a free (donations accepted!) source of straight-ahead news coverage on the RVA region

Thanks for the link, great article and super informative. Already eons ahead of the Augusta Free Press

This stuck out to me....(Virginia Tech athletic director Whit Babcock said last week his school will put about 75% of its resources into the football team, 15% into men's basketball and 10% into other teams.) I'd imagine a lot of football schools will follow a similair-ish model.

This current college bball landscape is NOT one I would choose. Also, I (like many others) have asked myself if I even want to continue rooting for a team that turns over 50% or more every squad in the offseason. BUT....if VCU can actually be a player?? a bit of a bully in regards to spending power?? Yea....I'm ok with seeing how it plays out. This might actually be the part of the story where we go from accepting crumbs from the Big Table to actually sitting on/at/near the Big Table.

As an aside, I cannot recommend the Richmonder enough for its coverage of city government, etc. Really straightforward, vital journalism that has become scarce in this age of budget-strapped traditional media outlets. And as the site has gotten its footing, it has allowed Michael Phillips to re-engage in sports coverage.

PSA: Support local journalism.

Michael has done a tremendous job. I spoke to him about an article he was writing about Richmond Good Life (that was probably preempted by all heck breaking loose in Richmond) and I love the effort he's put into it. If I could get the funds to refresh some of my gear I'd consider working for him.

Agree 💯 and thought their coverage at the start of the year that included Mayoral turnover, water treatment facility, DPU, etc was leaps and bounds more informative and timely than many other sources around town. Honestly, the Richmonder feels a bit like what journalism used to feel like before private equity started buying out all the newspapers and startups.
