In today's RTD :

If true, VCU did nothing wrong. We had similar issues with encroaching or destroying historical facilities with the new student rec center being built and the medical school is facing the same issues with the old medical tower. The medical tower does have unique exterior art deco designs, but the building is so antiquated, nothing can be done to save and modernize the structure. VCU will always face these challenges, but I believe the school has considered and done the best it could to save or compromise older facilities while modernizing for the future.

The NAACP is involved...it's an effing joke...darn you, you racist and overly diverse public university!

am i reading this wrong, or are these people protesting the RE-paving of an already existing lot?
i must be missing something here.

That's just it, you are not missing anything. If anything, they as a collective are missing something and not well informed. That is what is sad about this whole issue.

So VCU puts aside the part of the land not messed with and they get crap? I 95 was put over most it years ago but the university gets attacked for caring about the burial grounds. Why attack a college for caring about landmarks enough to not mess with them?

if you think there has to be a direct cause/effect link between the purported purpose of a protest and the target of the protest, you must be either engaging in the same knowing strawman misdirection that protesters often do, or you're just naive... or perhaps a little from column A, and a little from column B

sometimes folks have an issue or agenda... sometimes there aren't many opportunities to bring attention to said issue or agenda, so ya takes what ya can get and make as much hay as possible ...stagecraft, symbolism, coverage, etc... lemons/lemonade

Nail on head....

There is a following who are trying to shed light on the black history that was paved over and distroyed by the interstate highway and other projects. Houses were taken (most say under fair value) and history was erased. These neigboorhoods/areas were used for the highway and other constructions because they were not seen to have much value, or not valued by anybody not black.
Dosen't anybody find it a bit creepy that we are all driving and parking on folks graves (you probably didn't even know it)! I would guess the true aim is to have an archeological dig to find out what's there. A parking lot is an easier place to start, easier than in the middle of 95N.

Psshh, if you were to go to Europe, just about everything thats been paved over was once a house, or has been a burial ground at one point.
