This may be the best CAA tournament in years with those schools in the top 4(assuming it works out that way)

First Team All-CAA
Chase Allen, NE
Denzel Bowles, JMU
Charles Jenkinds, Hofstra - POY
Cam Long, Mason
Joey Rodriguez, VCU

Second Team
Kent Bazemore, ODU
Jawan Carter, UD
Ben Finney, ODU
Quinn McDowell, WM
Julius Wells, JMU

If it plays out this way and the seeds advance in the tournament, Sunday and Monday will definitely sell out.

I say we need move the tournament to Baltimore post haste.

Why just those energetic Towson fans would sell the joint out.

Mason will not be as good as advertised. ODU will be a tick off from last year but still good. VCU will be better than last year. Makes for a 3 way run at the top, but coming out this way:

1) VCU
2) ODU
3) GMU

Not that anyone asked my opinion.

I really don't think JMU should be discounted. I feel like they could be a top 3 team, I think Mason is a bit overrated. JMU had a worse record last year but they were missing key players at key positions and Bowles was still unstoppable.

Unless ODU turned over a rock and found some outside shooters since last year, I just don't see all the hype. I think both JMU and GMU will be better and of course, I think the Rams will come out on top. 8-)

I agree with you. I think ODU will really miss Lee. They have the bangers for sure but you still have to put the ball in the bucket.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the team that was the best defensive team in the CAA statistically, has won the CAA 14 out of the last 15 times. Offense wins games, defense wins championships.

Just out of curiosity what statistics are you using to define the best defensive team?

Here are stats from last season's conference games. Look at the defensive categories. ODU is at the top or near the top in every category. On the offensive side, there are in the middle or close to the bottom.

I agree, defense wins championships. So check out who is at/near the top when it comes to steals and defensive rebounds. :D

You still have to put the ball in the basket. Good offense beats good defense almost all the time. It is how the game is set up. Yes you have to defend but to win you have to score. I agree that ODU should be the favorite as they they have four of five coming back, they one an NCAA tourney game, and they are a great defensive team.

However, what happens on the days they go cold really cold. In the tourney last year VCU jumped on the early because we scored and they didn't. However, it was their offense that did us in at the end. We couldn't stop them and they hit some uncharacteristic threes that sealed the deal.

Yes their defense stiffened and they limited us to one shot mostly bad which we rushed and couldn't hit. However, if they do not hit those threes all the defense in the world wouldn't have saved them.

Also, I just looked at the CAA in conference stats from last year. It isn't clear who had the best defense from the relevant stats. You cant just look at defensive rebounds and steals. How about fg percentage against, 3 point fg percentage. Scoring margin etc?

Also, offensive stats such as assist and turnovers are also a big indicator on who is successful.

I wouild not be at all surprised to see JMU win the league. They have the best post player in the conference who is almost unstoppable and an excellent backcourt getting 2 guys back who sat out last year. Their home arena is tough when they are good. They are a bit of a darkhorse but I could see them winning the league over ODU or Mason...
