VCU SCORES STANDOUT WING - ROB BRANDENBERG

ESPN also confirming, has a grade of 85 there.

Well that didn't take long. Coach Smart seemed to think highly of this guy, I am glad we got him. Good first 2010 visit for us this fall (first I heard about anyway). Lets do the same thing with Lee, Bradley, LaLane and Harris. I would encourage two of them to sign quickly so they do not miss out on an opprotunity to be a Ram.

Good news to wake up too...hope our next visits can follow suit

Sounds like Rob was very underated. I think we will be very happy with him.

Great news but I gotta admit, I totally expected this to happen, it was just a matter of when. Just seemed like everything was lined up for it to happen.

Now the recruiting gets interesting. Is it a coincidence that the bigs are scheduled in reverse order of their scout.com ranking?

He hasn't been playing very long....at the HS varsity level....only since his junior year, starting in about Dec of 2008.

Gahanna Lincoln's Rob Brandenberg screams after sinking a game-ending three pointer to win 65-62 over Newark Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Gahanna.
School: Gahanna
Grade: Junior
Position: Guard
Height: 5-11

Playing in only his second varsity game, Brandenberg hit a game-winning 3-pointer just before the buzzer on the way to finishing with a team-high 27 points Dec. 9 in a 65-62 victory over defending Division I state champion Newark. The Lions snapped a 15-game winning streak by the Wildcats in the opening night of OCC-Ohio Division action.

Sounds like he has a ton of energy.....something Coach Smart seems to value

Very good article from last season with action picture.

"We came into this season with certain known commodities," assistant Ryan Kitsmiller said. "What Rob provides is another focal point. By being someone that demands attention from opposing teams it has helped make everyone better."

Through eight games, the 6-foot-3 guard led the team in scoring at just shy of 20 points per game. He was shooting 62.8 percent from the field, 41.2 percent from 3-point range and nearly 80 percent from the line. He also was averaging 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals.

Coach Tony Staib said Brandenberg is a particularly difficult matchup for opponents because he is equally effective shooting from the outside and driving to the basket. Gahanna does not design set plays for individual players, and Brandenberg has flourished in the open format.

"Rob is so skilled that he gets his points in every way possible," Staib said. "There is not a weakness in his game offensively."

He has a lot of athletic siblings and he has a twin brother who plays.

6-foot-2, 2010, SG, Rob Brandenberg from Gahanna, Ohio (Lincoln HS) informed us tonight that he has given a verbal commitment to the VCU Rams and first year head coach Shaka Smart. Brandenberg was also considering Wright State, Akron, Ohio and Marshall University in his final 5. He reported that their staff really sold him on the decision making process and he liked the campus and also the city feel. He also noted how he liked the Arena.

Seems like a terrific under-the-radar player! Welcome to Richmond, Rob!

If nothing else, it should be a lot of fun over the next few years watching all these guards sort themselves out. Between Rozzell, Gavin, Daniels, Theus and Brandenberg all at the SG spot, there will be one heck of a scramble for playing time -- and that's not even including Nixon, who will most likely be a backup to Burgess at the 3. Hope the younger guys are ready to be patient.

But I don't see how the coaches could justify adding McCarter, a perimeter guy who plays the same position as one of our best players (Burgess), when we face the loss of Kirill and the probable departure of Larry. IMO, the last 2 scholarships have to go to PFs and Cs or our entire post presence next season will consist of Saintil and Skeen. I haven't seen nearly enough from Saintil yet to be even remotely comfortable with that possibility.
