In today's Virginian Pilot, Darius Theus gets good mention for his stellar play in Akron's game.

VCU freshman Darius Theus, a Norcom High graduate, played a big role in the Rams' BracketBusters win over Akron, spelling the ailing Joey Rodriguez ( shoulder injury) at point guard.

Theus scored 10 points and had two assists and no turnovers in 22 minutes.

Coach Shaka Smart said Theus struggled earlier in the season but has done extra shooting and studied more game tape in recent weeks.

"It's paying off for him now," Smart said. "He's come a long way."

Saturday's second half line up that had both Joey and Larry on the bench provided some vision for next year. All those on the floor will be back and RAM opponents will face a potent and deadly team. We are deep and fortunate.

I had no intention of saying Larry and Joey would be gone next year. I was trying to point out that with those two on the bench, the five on the court held their own and did well. Did well enough to build the second half lead back up to double digits. I want Larry back, I feel he is not ready for the NBA. Joey will be back leading the point. Joey will join the ranks as a CAA preseason first team next year and may make this year's post season first team along with Larry. Its just great to see Darius do so well as a freshman leading the team with 10 points and no turnovers for over half the game. We will have both depth and experience next year and when starters have to come out of the game, we have tremendous players to fill those rolls. I was trying to put a positive light on our future, not impune Larry or Joey. We are very blessed to have them on our team and lead us into the CAA Tournament and the POST SEASON!. GO RAMS!

Well then WTF does Larry and Joey being on the bench have to do with how we will fare next year? You confuse me! :?

Ok, I obviously put too many observations or opinions into one subject that I posted. Your comment

I began point out the good play by Darius during the Akron game as indicated in the news article quoting Coach Smart. I should have stopped there. However, in watching the game we had shades of blowing another large lead and this was compounded by the fact the Larry got into foul trouble. Later, Joey got a well deserved rest as the team became a cohesive juggernaut and continued their assault on the Zips. I was trying to re-emphasize the good play of Darius and that when both Larry and Joey were on the bench, the five on the floor were both doing a great job and that all will be back next year (Skeen, Santil, Rossell, Nixon, Theus and others). In doing so, I was making a point that we will have more than five experienced players back next year. So, for next year, forget the names such as Larry or Joey, substitute any starter next year and if they have to come out of the game, there is another strong, capable RAM ready to fill those shoes. I was trying to speak conceptually, however, that point was lost in my statements.

I fully expect Joey to be back next year. I suspect Larry will also be back along with most of our current roster. While I expect next year's team will be outstanding, this year is not over. We need to crush the Dukes tonight with punctuating slams by TJ and Kirill highlighting their Senior night.
