I was watching the halftime show of the DOU game and they mentioned all of the bracketbuster games that will be on the ESPN family of networks and the announcer in the studio said that our game will be one that they will watch closely.

sure....because it is insignificant they want someone to watch....this is their doing,of course, they are going to make it sound important
bottom line, when announced (and really currently) the RPI differential makes this game a tough sell. We've lost a couple , they've won a couple so the hype is a good attempt for espn to make this important..for them...for us and UA it is the 3rd meeting in 3 yrs...both expected a different opponent

Unfortunately both WM and ODU lost their blockbusters game. Damages at large bids for the CAA. Ugh.

Yes, I think that this is still a big game for us.

Others, esp. NU need to win. Then, we need to win out and at least get to the championship game in the tourney. I may be crazy, but I think that we'd still have an at large chance if this were to happen.

Granted, we still need to take it one game at a time...and the ODU game will be difficult.

Doesn't matter if it's deemed a big game or not. They put it on the schedule so we are supposed to bring it and kick the tar out of them. That said, this game doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of the purpose of the bracketbuster. We can't work ourselves onto the NCAA at-large bubble finishing 4th - 6th in conference. It might mean something for the confidence of the team and for an NIT seed or something, but will have little relevance otherwise.

Every game is a big game.

But consider this: Win out, beating ODU on their floor (road win (RPI 1.4 wins) against a top 50 team). Win on Friday against UNCW, Saturday against GMU (Top 100), Sunday against NU (Top 50), and lose to ODU in the final in OT. All those are neutral court games and count a 1.0 for RPI, win or lose. ODU is getting talked about in strong terms for an at-large bid. If the above would happen, that would give the them the auto-bid and us a shot at their at-large. Our RPI would move toward the low 40's, and would have 6 top 50 wins against 2 losses (including beating at least one ranked team and one team in the RPI top 25) and only two losses that look bad. Add to that a 7 game winning streak to end the season before losing in the final, and we just might have a shot. We were 8-1 OOC against a pretty good schedule (beating three teams that have been ranked at some point during the season, only loss to a team in the top 150).

Now I'd rather just beat ODU in CAA Final, but if we start playing to our potential, we can do great things.

BEAT Akron. And I say beat them badly. Send a message to ESPN, this game should have never been scheduled.

This game is huge in protecting our seed in the NIT if we don't win the CAA Tournament. The NIT Bracket Project has VCU listed as a 3 seed as of yesterday. A 3 seed would get VCU a first round home game and we know how important home games are to us this year versus road games. Also, keep in mind any NIT projections at this point do not factor in those mid-major schools that win their regular season and lose in their tournament. Those teams automatically receive NIT bids and it's usually 6 - 8 teams. That would knock off the 7 and 8 seeds from the bracket projections. If we could win our next 3 games and end up not winning the CAA Tournament, it would be great to lock up a 2 seed in the NIT and have a shot at 2 home games prior to going to Madison Square Garden.

Another reason today's game is huge is both ODU and W&M lost last night. The rest of the CAA teams need to represent today in order to protect the conferences RPI. If the CAA tanks today, it will definitely have an impact on the CAA possibly sending 2 teams to the NCAA's. The ODU loss last night was kind of expected, but the W&M loss hurt the CAA big time.

Yes, this would be the kind of perfect storm that has me believing that at-large consideration would still be warranted.

The other thing...yes our conf. record would still likely have us around 4th or 5th. However, some may recall that we were 1-3 starting off and figure that we had gone 11-3 since...probably one of the top 2 in the conference over this period. Still, that JMU game hurt us badly.

winning really does cure everything! great day and a great win. let's keep it going by pounding JMU @ home setting up a special game @ODU followed by a magical CAA Championship run

I just think a top finish of 4th and a likely 5th place finish in the CAA will not get us anywhere near the NCAA bubble regardless of how we finish. But it's cool if others wear the gold glasses all the time.

although this was a scoreboard error, it was still nice to see it!
