VCU vs. Boston University

Boston University beat Northeastern University this year in overtime! Looks like a good matchup between the two schools. Students get in free. Season ticket holders get in for $10. Reserved seats are going for $14. Order tickets through internet. Let's come out in force and have fun.

Here's hoping for a better student turnout on Wednesday (not trying to call anyone out, just hoping is all).

I will say this, I think we're playing the the most challenging road through the CBI (although I suppose another road game wouldn't have hurt), especially if we get a game against Saint Louis added as well. I think that's definitely a good thing.

Don't hold your breath.

The cheerleaders weren't even there tonight.

Maybe the had a competition or something. If not then it was strange that none of them where there. Hopefully we can do better than 3,300 for this one, although you could tell by the noise level that the most spirited fans were in the house even though it was less than half full.

Just tell everyone that we are playing Boston....they will come out to see Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen!

From today's Boston Globe: http://www.boston.com/sports/colleges/m ... ead_state/

Not much in the article other than saying its their first time hosting a post season game and they played zone. If Brandon keeps in the groove, the zone will not be an issue.

Also, from today's RTD: http://www2.timesdispatch.com/rtd/sport ... 05/332296/

One portion stated
Old Dominion won the CIT last year. The Monarchs won the regular season and tournament titles in the Colonial Athletic Association this year. They beat Notre Dame, a No. 6 seed from the Big East, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

The University of Richmond went out in the semifinal round of the CBI last year, losing to Texas-El Paso. This year, UTEP and Richmond spent time in the top 25 rankings and earned bids to the NCAA tournament.

Teams such as VCU look at the CBI as an investment. And... VCU should have been selected for the NIT. The CBI was the best remaining option. It comes with a price, but in a year, Teague, Smart and the Rams' players hope the experience gained now will be priceless.
GO RAMS!

From the RTD

VCU couldn't do that. It is committed to the preseason NIT next season and another preseason tournament the year after that.

Anybody know where we are season after next?

Hopefully one of those Puerto Rico tournaments in a place with Nice weather

You mother f-kers BETTER beat boston university. I mean BETTER beat boston university (Northeastern fans don't capitalize the "b" and "u" in that school's name).

We're pulling for y'all like we'd hope you'd pull for us if we were playing Richmond in a game.

bu is good, not great. One of their best players (Corey Lowe) quit the team yesterday before the Morehead State game as he's a senior and said he had a minor leg ailment and din't want to injure it in the post season and ruin his chances to play ball overseas. clam.

bu is a two person team - John Holland and Jake O'Brien. Holland is a 6'5 slasher who likes to go to the hole, but can also shoot the 3. He takes a lot of shots, doesn't make a ton, but he's pretty good - excellent free throw shooter. Jake O'Brien is a 6'10 kid from Boston who we didn't really recruit (his HS coach was a start point guard at NU in the 70s, and we rue the day we didn't sign him). Jake is more comfortable playing on the perimeter, but he can bang - but he can also hit the three pretty well.

Their point guard is a kid who is very steady (Tyler Morris) - he's good, not great, but can be pressured. Can also shoot the three.

If I'm Shaka, I press them the minute they walk into the Siegel Center and until they walk off of the court. They have ZERO bench with Corey Lowe, and they looked gassed last night (yes, I went to the game). If you can get them into foul trouble, you'll win.

I can see Larry having a real good game if he's on.

bu had trouble defending the 3 against Morehead last night as well.

bu's coach is Pat Chambers, who's a bit of a psycho. He looks like the Great Gazoo from the Flintstones, and he likes to yell and scream from the sidelines. He worked for Jay Wright at Villanova, so he's got well tailored suits and they're always buttoned on the sidelines.

A good chant to taunt them is "hockey school". Granted they beat us this year, but a "Northeastern's Better" chant may get under their skin.

Boston beat NU around the time the Huskies were on that losing streak they went through early in the season when they were on the road a lot(including Hawaii) before going on the major winning streak. When I take that into consideration I'm not sure what to think about that win. Also NU has been known to be on fire one game and completely off the next.

(side note: I knew NU fans were cheering for us. They absolutely hate Boston. )

fwiw, once again, I used the game simulation program at http://www.whatifsports.com/ncaab/ ...ran a home game between us and bu 15 times... we won 10, they won 5... of our 10 wins, 8 were by +10 points, and 2 of their 5 were +10

however, I did not edit out Lowe... too lazy.. but the sims only seemed to be assigning him 20 min or less

BU in the CBI thread

BU doesn't seem to have it's own board. They're on like a poor man's version of the CAAZone. There's an AE board with threads on subjects from all schools.

I posted my version (and my take) on VCU for the AE fans to read. It's relatively accurate, I believe but I'm sure y'all will take a few potshots at me.

And Pav, yes, you do make me look thin. ;-)

There aren't many bu fans out there, but the ones that exist are relatively level headed.

I sat behind the Morehead State bench, and even got on the officials (Tim Kelly and Brian Dorsey were two of them) a couple of times. Tim Kelly saw it was me and shook his head and laughed.

The Morehead State fans were like "who are you?"

Best part was I know the side entrances to the bu Gym and didn't have to give them a dime ;-) to get in.
