STREAKING RAMS SCOOP FOURTH STRAIGHT, 6-1
4-11-09
NORFOLK, Va. – With the postseason looming, Virginia Commonwealth University seems to have found its stride at the right time.
The Rams nabbed their fourth consecutive victory Saturday, cruising past South Alabama, 6-1. VCU improves to 15-8 on the year, while the Jaguars drop to 10-11.
Despite the lob-sided final score, the match was hotly contested. Five of the six singles contests reached a third set. However, the Rams prevailed in four of those five deciding sets.
Senior Emil Lindgren (pictured, above) helped lead the way. He was one of five Rams to pick up both singles and doubles victories. After dropping a 6-1 decision to Leon Dominguez in the first set on the No. 3 court, Lindgren rallied for consecutive 7-5 triumphs in the second and third stanzas. Lindgren is 16-8 this season.
Additionally, the senior from Stocksund, Sweden earned his 54th career doubles victory, moving him into a tie for ninth place on VCU’s all-time list.
Senior Martin Schulhauser (pictured, left), sophomore Bobo Delemark and freshmen Benjamin Bouhana and Filip Svensson also collected both singles and doubles wins.
VCU returns to action April 16-19 at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships in Norfolk, Va. Seedings for the tournament will be released later this week. The Rams have won 11 of the last 13 CAA crowns.
