In it, they asked:
"Biggest difference between recruiting at VCU and your previous stop?"
Will Wade's answer?
Recruiting is a lot more regional at VCU whereas we had a national recruiting base at Harvard

Is that true guys? Or, is that how we'd like to think about our recruiting - as being more interested in kids in specific regions? Is this how Shaka is approaching recruiting? Is this good or bad in your opinion?

Also, the other coaches' answers reflected the fact that they all "upgraded" by coming to VCU. I just don't know if I am reading too much into this one (probably!), but I don't like his answer. From what it looks like, we are recruiting nationally - right?

Kids that are being recruited by Harvard are probably already interested in Ivy League schools. While this provides you with a much broader geographic scope, you're pulling from a much smaller pool, numbers wise.

Haha the differences are night and day b/w the two. Basketball and all other sports at Harvard, in most cases are secondary to academics.

Every program recruits to a certain region(unless you are the elite of the elite)...look at the rosters of almost every team, and you'll see a pretty distinct regional trend/correlation. This has always been the case, nothing new....

I am happy to field a team of central Virginia's finest alone...problem is we dont get em all

I understand Joey isn't exactly Eric...but he is one of most accurate returning 3 point shooters in the CAA (I think even the most accurate?)...can pick pockets, and returns with 2 years experience under his belt.

I would be VERY surprised if one of the freshmen took that starting PG spot away from Joey.

Sorry, but that was a weak article. Nothing exciting/new. They are traveling in July, but like the basketball. The food is bad, they work long hours and miss the kids.

Also, with regard to Harvard recruiting spanning a much bigger base than VCU. Kids will come from all over the place to attend an elite school like Harvard and play some basketball while they're there, but they won't necessarily move across the country to come to VCU for education or basketball - - not routinely, not yet.

So the regional recruiting in the context of what he said is a GOOD thing. Got it!

And now that I think about it, I would rather focus on specific regions so that we can identify the hidden talent, set a precedent in the area and build relationships for future recruiting. I guess it all works out. As long as we are always represented in MULTIPLE regions, we should be good.

I don't think it is anything wrong with having a regional approach....the mid-atlantic region has a ton of talent...Also it would probably help because it would be more likely a recruit would have a little familiarity with the school....dont see anything wront with it.... :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:
