This is a ridiculous video of highlights of our recruiting class. Look at Toby Veal's highlights. There was a lot more than that one dunk video that was circulating on here, and he is NASTY.

Show this to your friends and tell them to get season tickets for next year, it's gonna be popping in the Siegel Center this season. I don't think I've seen a recruiting class with as much athleticism as this one at VCU in a long time. 8-)

It's just unreal watching them all together one after another. Shaka really is an ACE recruiter.

Pretty crazy I think most of them dunk better then anyone on our team now lol

excellent compilation...most exciting part for me was that each one of them defends the defensive rim regardless of their size and/or position.

:o :o :o

I can't wait.

(Looks like a lot less rim checks in the future  )

Most exciting part for me was M1ke's avatar!

Granted those are only a couple videos, but wow. Juvonte and Veal (sounds like an old school R&B group) look like they are/ will be defensive monsters. Plus with Reco and Rob's athleticism and Haleys upside I'm stoked.

Saw this video last night and heard Shaka and each assistant talk a little about each recruit - they are STOKED!! But they are even more stoked about our current players and their focus toward next season ALREADY - as Ed Nixon told everyone on the team yesterday - only 183 days until practice officially starts!!!

You my have a slight problem if when your watching the video like 30 seconds into it you zone the video out to hear the song playing..... Not to take away from their awesomeness but is this a song I should consider writting out. Sounds pretty sick to me!

How about a recap on their thoughts about the guys then? :)

Here goes ........

Reco

Long and ATHLETIC obviously. He loves VCU as evidenced by how many games he attended this year on his own, he even came to 2 CBI games which is more than some of our fans. Shaka saw him play at an AAU event in Myrtle Beach with many of the top coaches from around the country. Shaka said it almost got to the point where you would start thinking that you wish he wasn't playing so well to stop attracting so much attention (a la Billy Donovan). Very outgoing kid and we will see a lot of different hairstyles according to Mike Jones.

Juvonte

Is getting better EVERY day. A teammate described as "sorry" as a 10th grader and that teammate said he was VERY good by the time his senior season came around. So good that he started drawing a lot of major interest from larger schools to the point that Dave Telep advised Shaka to stop recruiting the kid because he was wasting his time - Shaka accepted the challenge of course. He's kind of a quiet kid (unlike the other four).

Toby

Loves to the dirty work around the basket and he knows that's his job for VCU. Had never seen VCU when he committed. JUCO recruitment is a lot different than high school recruitment. As Shaka said, when they commit it just means the other teams know who the real competition is to target against. A lot of SEC teams got involved late, but we held them off.

..................................................................................................

Rob

A winner. 6'2", but has a 6'8" wingspan - perfect for our system. Very good and streaky shooter (like Brandon). Norwood likes to take credit for his commitment. At dinner on Rob's final visit he was sitting next to Norwood. Norwood was about to leave and Rob grabbed him by the arm and said to wait because he had something to say - I want to play basketball at VCU!

DJ

Another late bloomer - good thing for us (more athletic than I expected when I saw the video). Will Wade visited him in CA one more than one occasion. Very smart kid - his favorite subject is chemistry. Shaka quizzed him on the periodic table (Shaka was googling of course), DJ got every answer correct. He has an incredible memory - when Shaka was driving him back to the airport he remembered every person he met on his visit and something personal about each person.

I came away impressed by the recruits and very impressed with our staff. I've heard Shaka speak many times of course, our assistants are all very impressive too. They're obviously VERY hard workers too......

They also gave a lot of credit to us the fans. They know that if they can get a kid to come here for a game that it will be hard for them to turn down an offer from VCU once they saw the atmosphere that we create.

Well with RamNation it wont quite seem like that long of an offseason. I am also intrigued by the music in the video. What is the name of the song?

And I agree with Marcus as usual. Mike's avatar caught my eye as well!

Toby seems like the kind of player that will put somebody in their place if he needs to.

We needed some of that this past year. Look forward to seeing him give somebody some act right next season
