VCURamNation/RRR: Pierria Henry commits to VCU!

A lot of stuff I am reading on this guy talks about him playing the point. I wonder what the chances are that he develops and plays there for us. If so, a 6' 4" PG is outstanding! Taking nothing from the Joey's of the world, I have always preferred tall point guards.

He can play the point and has done so this past year. He averaged 6 assists a game this past season. If the need arises, he definitely can play the position. We are recruiting some point guards still so it remains to be seen how it will pan out. He's definitely capable though.

we already have a 6'4 point guard who will be a junior by the time he comes here... 6'4 point guards is what VCU does best Eric, Darius, Pierria

When did Eric or Darius become 6'4? They were both 6'3 and Eric was actually a shade under that.

Found this thread on West Virginia's scout messageboard on Henry committing to VCU. They are surprised that he committed to 'a smaller program than all of his other offers'. Someone else speculates that the injury may have scared them and the big boys away, which is somewhat curious since he's expected to make a full recovery and this injury isn't a nagging one like a knee injury or something like that. I could see that being a reason schools would back off if they did. I'm glad that they did and we got him though. Knowing that they wanted him and all those schools offered him and then having some of them back off because of his injury must have cemented VCU as the place to be in his mind. Let's hope it pays dividends on the court and works for both parties.

Sounds to me like the kid just made a decision based on the Coaching staff. He wanted a strong family feel and our coaching staff met that need better than anyone else. From what I have read, Henry and his grandfather (my condolences to his family) knew VCU was the best fit.

Maybe Huggins going out on the floor and laying down and making out with his injured player on national TV creeped him out.

West Virginia coach Bob Huggins flew in to watch Henry and his team a few times last season and while Henry was in Morgantown this summer for the Jamfest AAU tournament, he toured the campus with assistant coach Larry Harrison. Harrison told Henry he had a scholarship offer, and little while later coach Bob Huggins called him to chat and confirm the offer, Henry said.

You might be right VRam.

if Henry wanted to play for an alcoholic he could have just gone to ODU

Vram, as a WVU graduate and a Ram Fan, that is a low blow....
what huggins did was huge. It showed that he cared for his players, but honestly what vram said made me chuckle a little...sorry :D

REGARDLESS haha we produce big point guards

Yeah both Darius and Eric are 6'3. It's all good though.

I do agree though...we've been bringing in some bigger guards and I would look for that to continue as we recruit this year.
