I was wondering if it's because the team isn't in Memphis right now, and they want him immediately practicing/warming up, able to be checked out afterward..What's the point of sending him to the g-league for a practice just to bring him back afterwards? Why couldn't he just start practice with the team straight away? Perhaps someone with some NBA knowledge can chime in on this nuance.
Vince has an undeniable work ethic, and the Grizzlies dealing with injuries all last season was a blessing in disguise because Vince could show them how valuable he can be. Now he's expected to be a key piece for them and a potential starter.maybe I am in the minority here but Vince Williams story is the kind I love with players that work hard and improve in all aspects of their game and get rewarded with a nice NBA career
also a wonderful reflection of his character
go Vince
spot on - for those posters that are unaware of the specifics of VW's contract, I am attaching a link -Grizz's got a steal hereMy only gripe about how things are going for Vince is that he was a second rounder - that helped Memphis make what looks increasingly like a wildly low offer for his contract. Objectively it's a tremendous amount of money and I'm certainly very happy for him and absolutely would've taken it were I lucky enough to be in a similar situation, but it's not crazy to think that his production is worth close to the full amount of his contract PER YEAR on the open market.
Don’t gripe of feel bad for Vince he was lucky to be drafted in the 2nd round and the 1st was simply out of the question. My only gripe about how things are going for Vince is that he was a second rounder - that helped Memphis make what looks increasingly like a wildly low offer for his contract. I definitely plan to try to catch his first game, whenever it is.Word is, Vince is off the OUT list and moved to DOUBTFUL for tomorrow's game. It's assumed he's making progress and should be slated to make season debut either Friday's game or Sunday's game.
Dude cut it out. His deal was more than fair. He got the highest ever Two Way to Full NBA roster in league history. My only gripe about how things are going for Vince is that he was a second rounder - that helped Memphis make what looks increasingly like a wildly low offer for his contract. Dude, cut it out. This is your second reply to the same comment.Dude cut it out. His deal was more than fair. He got the highest ever Two Way to Full NBA roster in league history.
Further, he has a full team of professionals that makes those decisions and they deemed his contract fair. They wouldn’t have had him sign it otherwise. It wasn’t as if he was a 18 year old college kid, and some AAU Coach or his parents were negotiating his NIL deal.
For perspective. Vince’s yearly contractual amount is about that of the 30th pick (last pick in the first round) his draft year.
Could they have signed him for more? Yes, but you have to understand that the NBA is a business and getting value makes Vince a guy they keep while he continues to demonstrate his value. For example, Jake Laravia a kid picked 19th Vince’s draft year, and a kid Vince has passed buy in the rotation, just had his 4th year option declined. Further, at the time of his signing he wasn’t considered a valuable piece of the rotation. That came later.
As previously stated, if he continues to play he will be fine and likely get 10 million per year or more.
So feel sorry for the guys like Melvin, JeQuan, Tillman, Juvonte and others who were close but never got the NBA burn or bag.
