Kinda sad that neither of them has been willing to play us in past 12 years.

i agree that it is sad, but if u look at it from their prespective, it is a lose lose situation. playing VCU will not help their SOS or RPI whether they win or lose. u look at VT who in the past two seasons (07-08 and 08-09) have been right on the bubble. a loss to VCU will not help the resume, nor will a win against VCU would help the resume

Have you looked at their RPI or SOS recently? It would be a solid win IF they could beat us. If not it wouldn't be a bad loss, but they would lose the perception that they are the best teams in the state just because they are in the ACC.

When they played the other night, it was the battle to be the 6th best team in the state, right behind Mason, ODU, VCU, WM & Richmond. I would put them ahead of JMU, Radford, Hampton, Longwood, Liberty & VMI.

The only instate OOC that VPI played this year was VMI.

The only instate OOC that UVA played this year was Hampton.

FWIW:
VCU played Hampton & Richmond (and Union) 2-0, or 3-0
WM played Hampton, Richmond, Longwood, & Radford. 4-0
Richmond played VMI, WM, Longwood, ODU & VCU 3-2
ODU played Richmond & Longwood 1-1
Mason played Liberty, VMI & Radford 2-1.

The transitive property does not work when it comes to sports, so common opponents is irrelevant. All 3 are good teams and any of the 3 could beat each other on any given night. Ranking them without seeing them play each other is moot (although tech beat uva), but I guess that's what message boards are all about.

I agree theyaintwantit, the benefit of playing VCU is far less than the cost and therefore is not worth it to either of them.

I totally agree - it's lose lose if you think about it too much. Playing VCU would be a good win (**** SOLID!!!!) for either Tech or UVA.....neither are great basketball schools. It would in fact be a GOOD win.

I hate the use of the word solid.............if you aren't solid, you shouldn't be in DI (and there are a LOT of non-solid DI programs out there, so don't group us with them).

I don't believe you can rank the top teams in the state easily, but if I had to take the top 4 teams, two spots would go to UVA and Tech. I saw UVA play tonight and they looked very sharp blowing out UNC on the road.

The other thing is that ODU, VCU and GMU rack up wins against some pretty poor CAA teams. The level of play in the ACC night in and night out is far superior to the CAA. There is no Towson in the ACC -- and no UNCW or Delaware for that matter. The worst team in the ACC is NC State at 2-4 and 14-8, with wins over Duke, FSU and Marquette. UVA and Tech have a much harder in-conference road to hoe than the CAA squads.

I agree with all of it
