Welcome to VCU, Lazar Djokovic!

You can search my post about the endurance question/statement during the season 🤷‍♂️
I believe Odom mentioned it in at least a couple of the post-game press conferences when questioned why he wasn't on the floor during certain stretches of games - that he was tired. I think it was also mentioned on a couple of the broadcasts. Not the reason for it. Just seemed strange to me because he wasn't playing that many minutes.

I think Lazar is a 5, while Mitchell and Evans are stretch 4 and/or 3/4 guys.

My point was simply that after the upcoming season, Lazar will be our only center as Ferm graduates. In previous years players like to come to a place where they are the main player without another player in the spot.....or after their first year, they are the main player in the position. If Lazar is the starting 5 this year over Fermin that is fine too. Just saying Ferm graduates after this season, leaving Lazar as our main/top/only center....our featured player at the 5 (if he is that good). Then we get another coming from the portal who will likely play behind Lazar. That is an incentive/enticement for many players to sign. That was my point and not who will be first up in rotation this coming season.
What makes you think that anyone will be here after a year

Rams have had mixed success with "5's" from eastern Europe in the past ...

L.F. Likholitov
Konstantin Pepeliaev
Eugene Kissourine
Denis Orlov

While you won't find this history anywhere, Pepeliaev is the VCU's all-time leader in vowels (later coached locally at Trinity Episcopal)

I have made several explainer posts on this possible incentive; however, I never assumed he was going to stay. On at least one occasion, I said something to the affect, "if he decides to pursue a 2nd year with us/decides to stay". I don't know if he signed with us thinking, 'VCU has sent players to the NBA and Europe. It is a step up from CoC and I will likely be the BMOC at the 5 position and have it all to myself the following year. They can work to build a team around me.' or if the thought, 'just give me the bucks and a court to play on and get better, then I am outa here faster than you can say, "Mo Money"'. You would have to ask him.
Regardless, I did not make an assumption about him staying. I only suggested a wide open spot after a year might be an incentive for a player to sign with us. If you disagree and think he just came here to take our money for a year and move on the better, richer, greener pastures, that is fine too.

While what you say is true, the Rams have also had mixed success with "5's" from our homeland too.
I think it has a lot to do with being a mid-major and who we are able to get. A lot of bigs tend to "sprout" in height during their last couple of years of HS. It then takes them time to grow into their new body at the college level.

Good point. The early maturing HS bigs become highly coveted if athletic because less guess work on physical development. We have to go after bigs with upside, who we develop, which in today’s environment is a big disadvantage as, if they develop, the odds are significantly reduced that they will stay. We can look no further than Luke. It would be wild to see what a player like David Robinson could get school hoping in today’s play for pay (PFP) college game.

Kissourine was a seriously talented player who gave himself up a bit by playing out of position and deferring to Kendrick and okay name slipping me, guy from Snow Hill, MD, offensively while doing the dirty work of D and rebounding inside. He ended up starting at small forward on the Russian Olympic team.
That was the most talented front court VCU has ever had in my opinion.

You are referring to Sharan Mills. Was a heck of a talent his senior year. Yes, Kissourine played on the Russian Olympic team that beat the U.S. Dream Team. From what I recall, he had a huge game.

Sherron. RIP.

Highest drafted Rams ....

Sanders 15th
Maynor 20h
Hyland 26th
Mills 28th
Duncan 30th
Dark 32nd
Williams 47th

Gerald Henderson, 64th

Still, Dark is most impressive .... at time VCU had zero TV exposure, next to zero reputation, completely zero respect, and just one season in NCAA Division 1 .... Bodine led the parade.
