A bunch of these guys seem to be really putting in the time and work getting ready to bring the fight to those crazy enough to face us this season. Lazar is one of them:

Aaaaand that's exactly why you're not a PT or CSCS lol that's not a deep squat but it IS a top/half squat. Half squats are very beneficial for athletes as it works on explosiveness, increasing vertical power and building quick twitch muscles. Hence why the range of motion is just the top 1/3 to 1/2 of a standard squat and the reps are quick. As a basketball player you need to be able to jump off the floor efficiently and at times in quick succession, especially as a big to grab rebounds and contest shots.

When have you ever seen a basketball player jump from a deep squat position? Never. The half squat more closely mimics game reps. I'm sure there are days where the team will incorporate deep squats, but most S&C programs will include movements with shorter ranges of motion, isometrics, activations, etc. that your average person isn't used to seeing. If you see a college athlete (especially one at the D1 level) doing movements you're unfamiliar with, chances are it's not "wrong" and there's a lot of research behind it

Tall dudes also can't squat deep cuz they're so tall.

Plyometrics?
Plyometrics and Overspeed training was a class I took to help train my athletes. VCU offered that in the evenings back in the mid 80's as I recall. George Dentiman ( I think I got that right) was behind this and had helped train The Dallas Cowboys. Earlier verisions of the towing machines and bands for overspeed training included being towed behind cars and of course downhill running. If you have never gone through this training yourself and are in decent shape, give it a try and I promise you will see big changes toward the positive. I also promise you will hurt the next day all over. Sorry, I got carried away as I haven't thought of that Plyometrics course and training in a long time.
