It would have been criminal if this was given to anyone else.

Well, Fermin has a 2 year jump on him and hasn't won any awards yet.I love Luke and hope he stays at least 3 years. (Hey it’s NIL and if he continues to grow the P5 will be in his ears with buckets of cash). However, he isnt a great defensive player.
On our team alone, I think Zeb is a better defender by far. Luke is a heck of a shot blocker but he gets beat all the time in the paint and if the big is mobile he has a tough time. heck in the paint Fermin does a better job one on one.
We’ve seen this before, Ed Nixon, JPR, Antione Willie all were great defenders who never got recognition. Voters like blocks, and steals, they like stats not good hard nosed defense.
Again, happy for Luke but this award is dubious at best.
Nor will heWell, Fermin has a 2 year jump on him and hasn't won any awards yet.
So Luke is voted all defensive team but he is not good on defense…gotta love message boardsWell, Fermin has a 2 year jump on him and hasn't won any awards yet.
Fermin may be the softest big in VCU history. Crazy to think that he was a top 100 prospect and that he lost his job to a freshman who weighs 185 lbs soaking wet. This again is exactly the reason why IF god willing, we make the NCAA tournament, we hopefully do not get matched up against a team with true bigs. Otherwise, it will be another quick appearance in the tourney.Well, Fermin has a 2 year jump on him and hasn't won any awards yet.
Luke knows he owns the rims at The Stu!As I said in the other thread. He could be a 2-3x DPOTY possibly if he stays.
Fermin is a good rim protector, fairly disciplined as a defender, and a great teammate. Why be negative in March on the eve of the tournament. Let's focus on the strengths of the guys that helped us get here and that includes every single one on this team.Fermin may be the softest big in VCU history. I'm incredibly positive and am very much looking forward to this weekend. At no point am I questioning his character as a man or as a teammate. I agree with your sentiment whole-heartedly regarding that. Unfortunately, two things can be true at the same time. I think we are really good, and I am very excited, and I think that Fermin is incredibly soft, un-skilled, and quite possibly the biggest disappointment of a top-100 recruit we've had in at least the past 10-12 years. It's called being objective and keeping it real. I'm rooting for us big time and there is a lot of potential with this team no doubt. But if we run into a team with even a competent big man, we may be in big trouble.Fermin is a good rim protector, fairly disciplined as a defender, and a great teammate.
