Well at least someone seems to like Shaka...

Shaka's a comer but he cant fix the problems of NC State. The program just hasn't been the same since Jimmy V.

UGGGG not already, we cannot afford another coaching change for at least 2 more years. Norwood, you better put some kind of HUGE buyout on our next contract with Coach Smart. No way we can have a coaching change at the end of this season. If we have Jesus, with Mary and Joseph as assistants waiting to take over, every other CAA coach will just say, 'No VCU coach has stayed to see his freshmen graduate' and it would be to true to argue. UGGGGGG

Those fools didn't know just how good they had it with Herb Sendek.....
Haha so false. Herb's ceiling was the sweet 16 (which was one time). It was definitely worth the risk to try a new coach and most all of us "fools" still agree.

You've gotta be kidding me, you wouldn't rather be in the tournament yearly than in your current position?

Maybe if Shaka Smart goes to NC State, Anthony Grant will come back!

... or maybe not. :?

Of course I would. But not under Herb.

Are you not understanding this? We took a much needed risk and we failed. It's not fun right now, but I couldn't be happier he resigned.

I agree with this quote from the thread, from Oliver Purnell. We have been blessed:

“The first time I hired Shaka, I interviewed him for a week,” said Purnell, now the head coach at Clemson. “One of the ways I do that is to make them work a basketball camp (because) lots of guys in a two to three hour interview can’t let you know who they are.

”One of the things that jumped out at me is how well rounded and smart he is. He just does everything well when it comes to basketball. He knows how to teach. He knows the PR. He’s impeccable at speaking to kids at camp or to parents or to the Rotary Club. There’s nothing that you need to do as a head coach that he can’t do, (and he has a) tremendous work ethic and that’s huge. Some guys are blessed with a lot of these things and don’t want to work. He’s blessed with that total package.”

No, I really am not understanding it. Why blow up a good thing (with trips to the dance as a regular thing) and go in another direction? The NC State program has this impression of itself that is just not realistic!

That's what happens when you're in a conference with Duke and UNC as your rivals. Getting to the dance is not enough. Anything less than a Final Four appearance every other year is seen as failure.

Gotcha. We have different opinions on who's the fool then.
