I don't yet have cable, satelite or fios. Just the old digital converter box. I know, I know, in many ways I'm still living like it was 1972.

So, if you were starting from scratch and you wanted to maximize your potential for viewing Rams' hoops... what one service would you sign-up for?

I think I'd go comcast, they have CSN and TCN, and now you can order ESPNU through them. Now if they'd only offer the NFL Ticket.

I pay for cable (Comcast) through my HOA dues. However, when our contract expires, I plan to get DirecTV. Not only can you tune in the VCU Rams games but will be able to purchase NFL ticket too. Can't get that through cable or Dish.

Thanks, Banana. I appreciate the info.

Can you get CSN with DirecTV?

Can't you pretty much get everything (other than NFL ticket) through all of the systems both cable and satellite?

That's not bad at all with DirecTV. The only thing that keeps me hesitant with them is the dish. A small gust of wind and its pretty much out...That would piss me off so much.

Actually I've had fewer outages with satellite than when I had cable. When it goes out its usually very temporary and usually during a thunder storm when you're not suppose to be watching TV anyway or during a heavy snow storm when you just have to brush the snow off the dish.

When cable went out, it was out until they sent a technician.

Yes, weather conditions should be considered regarding the dish. Several of my neighbors have them attached to their houses and they've withheld hurricane force winds (Charlie and Wilma). However, I'm sure they did not have reception during the hurricanes while I did with Comcast...at least until the power went out.

However, I want DirecTV not just for VCU games but for Washington Redskins and Wizards games too. DirecTV is the only way I can get everything I want.

Yes, they carry several CSNs (most of which are an extra package). I have DirecTV and the NFL package, here's the deal. NFL package is great, don't know what I would have done without it this year... DirecTV installers are TERRIBLE, I had a Jamaican the first time and two Mexicans the second time... Neither of them could speak a lick of English! The deal with DirecTV is that you don't require any training to be an installer. You or I could apply through DirecTV to be installers and they would take us in a heartbeat. The guys that drive around in the DirecTV vans aren't bad, but usually you are going to get a third-party installer. The first time, the Jamaican with him broken English tried to convince me to move my TV from the living room to my dining room to make his life easier. When I refused, he did THE shoddiest job I think you could possibly do. He can this ugly @$$ thick black cable all up and down every single room in my apartment and put 1,000 nail holes in the apartment wall. Needless to say, my landlord wasn't too thriller about it. Also had to pay $75 extra for him to drive a pole into the ground to mount the dish on outside. Second time, the two Mexicans didn't properly attach the dish to the roof and ran the two cables in halfway up through the wall in my house. I'm still living here so I don't know what the landlord is going to say when I move out. On top of the installation, their customer service is TERRIBLE. They lock you into these 18 month contracts and won't let you out even if they don't come through on their service. Because the Mexicans didn't properly attach the dish to the roof, the dish came loose right before the Super Bowl and not only was I not able to watch it this year, but I also didn't have service for the following two weeks till they could get someone out here. Aside from that, the DVR box has a LOT of storage and the channel selection is the best I've ever had. Personally, I'm going to go back to Verizon FiOS as soon as my contract is up. The channel selection was nearly as good and I hardly had any issues with them. Also the response time is the fastest on the box and they have pretty much anything you could wish for on the On Demand. DirecTV has a bunch of junk and you have to directly connect to your router to get it. It's a slow download to your box and it deletes after a certain period of time.

Bottomline: If you don't care about customer service and only care about channel selection, go with DirecTV. Don't believe them though when they say they have a "free moving service" because that was part of the reason I signed up knowing I was moving before my contract was up. It's only free when you've had service with them for something like two years even though they told me otherwise when they were trying to get me to sign. If you want a good mix of channels and customer service, go with Verizon FiOS. I've had Comcast and it's not overly terrible, but I would definitely go with Verizon if I had the choice.

While you can't get Sunday Ticket with Comcast, you can get Redzone, which is *almost* as good.

Yeah, I'd rather go to a bar every Sunday to watch the game than to deal with DirecTV. They are holding onto that NFL Package for dear life like AT&T is holding onto the iPhone exclusivity. If either of those two companies didn't offer those incentives, they'd probably both be filing for bankruptcy right now. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with both and once my contracts are up... coincidentally, I'll be going to Verizon to replace both as well.

Interesting feedback regarding DirecTV. I know lots of people who have it and they love it! In addition, I understand the DVR box is great! I'll weigh everything again when our contract with Comcast expires. I'm not doing anything until then anyway.

I don't know if comcast offers it...but I know ESPN(1,2,3,U) and CSN DON"T. Every single home game for the Rams is offered by.....VCU, through their website. You get video, audio, and live stats.

Does any network offer as many games (video) as VCU does on their website?
